Synth SysEx Compatibility?

Post by Ahhhk »

Does anyone happen to know of a compatibility list that outlines what SysEx from which Korg hardware can be loaded in to each of the KLC synths?

Aside from the obvious M1 -> KLC M1, Wavestation -> KLC Wavestation, etc

For example, loading 01/W or X5D patches in to KLC WaveStation?

Thanks.

I've found the following on Korg's website for KLC (http://www.korg.com/LegacyWAVESTATION and http://www.korg.com/LegacyM1):

"Original WAVESTATION series data can be imported via .SYX file" and "Original M1 and T-series data can be imported via .SYX file"

These were in the Specifications tab under the Others section on the respective pages.

Hope this helps... Cheers!

Thanks! I didn't even think to look on the Korg site (duh).

Was hoping there was a bit more backwards-compatibility with them - as is the case with my X5DR and the newer series.

There cannot be more backwards compatibility because X5D is quite different from M1, both in which samples it has, and also some synthesis features that M1 doesn't have.

Yes, I understand that. My point was only that some of the newer Korg series copy/use a lot more of the older model sample data (and multiple synth engines) that allows for better backwards compatibility.

I have a lot of (my own) custom patches in all my Korg hardware from over the decades that would be nice to use with the flexibility of the software versions - for obvious flexibility reasons.

Maybe in another 10 years we'll have soft versions of the Triton and Karma :)

Thanks!

I know exactly what you mean. I used to use the NS5R which had a few M1 patches as well as some T- and later M- and O-series sounds. Your best bet would be a manual process to use some type of SysEx editor to extract the pertinent information about FX, envelopes, filter settings, etc. and then fill in the blanks by locating the appropriate samples or closest candidates.

I know it sounds tedious, but think of the nostalgia! :)

Good luck! Cheers!
