Ive been trying to record stuff in ableton and link it up to my mpc but I noticed every time I connect the midi cable the polyphony goes down to 4 and back to 8 if I disconnect
This was a big reason I bought this and using it with midi is obviously a desire seems a bit weird to me Im hoping its some setting
any advice would be appreciated
thanks

It sounds like you have a midi loop going on in Ableton.
You could try turning Local Off in the microKorg's Global settings. If you still get sound out of it when plugged into MIDI, then you've got MIDI data looping out of Ableton back into the MK. So the notes you play are double triggered.
Now, leaving Local Off is one way to solve the problem but the microKorg will be unplayable when there is no MIDI connected. It basically turns the microKorg into separate sound module (on MIDI In) and MIDI Controller - notes and controller messages go straight to output without going to the sound engine internally.
If that is a problem for you then you'll need to eliminate the loop in Ableton. You will need to try turning off things like Loopback and MIDI Monitoring. If you have Local Off whilst troubleshooting this then you'll know you've fixed it when playing the MK no longer produces any sound.

Those are fun! I had an impossible MIDI loop going with my PG-300 and Juno-1 and finally had to throw in the towel and invest in another MIDI interface so they can have their own port. It was well worth the investment though.
Glad you both got the loop issue fixed! Cheers!
