New motherboards.

Post by drama1 »

Sorry for my ignorance in re: electronics, but are the RAM slots where the RAM is seated a part of the motherboard or is it a separate piece? Reason I'm asking, I'm supposed to be receiving a new motherboard and I don't want to have the same RAM issues that have been posted on this forum. Thanks to all.

There are two RAM slots and they are very much a part of the motherboard.

What is the model of the motherboard and should we all be buying an additional one for a backup in case of breakdown or will Korg have tons of them ready for when we need repairs?

I am not so sure there is a need for tons of panic. Korg has been carrying spare parts for various key boards well beyond warranty. I think there is some language about keeping spare parts up to 10 years.

I understand some Kronos owners will be inconvenienced for a month or so. The individual service centers likely do not carry stock.

If it helps you, you can search on this forum for the Atom based mobo. I think its 3-4 yrs old and there might be a slightly newer replacement.

One more silly question. Since I'll be getting a new motherboard for my non-X Kronos, will the new motherboard have the same RAM and SSD as the X version? Korg wouldn't replace the motherboard with an older motherboard would they? Actually, I'd just be happy to have a stable working Kronos. I will say though, Dan and Korg have been very good.
thanks.

There are two motherboards. The original is the D510MO which is now obsolete and the KronosX uses the D525MW. The D510 uses desktop memory and the D525 uses laptop memory so they are not compatible as far as memory goes. As to which M/B you get, your guess is as good as mine
