Making the Switch

I use the synth channels of my EMX to control a Virus TI and use the drum patches direct. I'd like to port my tracks over to an ESX so that I can modulate the drums and maybe use my own samples. I owned an ESX for a little bit and vaguely remember that all five of the voices used MIDI notes even though they had different uses. (Stretch, slice)

Does anyone know if the stretch and slice patches output MIDI notes and if they would therefore be a suitable replacement for my EMX?

Likewise, has anyone tried porting a file from EMX to ESX with the caveat that the synth parameters (which I'm not using) won't port?

Thanks,
-CCQ

Not near my kit ATM, but your first question (stretch/slice transmitting note data) is esoteric and scary. That said, my gut feeling is that it doesn't because Stretch parts act by initiating the beginning of the sample closer to what you'd see on the drum parts, while Slice basically gates one according to predetermined slice points similar to the function of the Audio-In part. I don't think you're gonna be able to port more than 2 of your synth parts over.

Hmmmm

Thanks. I appreciate the response. I'm trying to stay all-hardware but it's harder and harder every day, you know?

Yeah, for things like sequencing and sample playback it's hard to beat but I'm trying to keep my rig the same way. And for video it's not even an option unless you can find a Kaptivator or Edirol P10. Apple's Quartz Composer has been good to me :)
