So I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a brand new korg kronos 61. I'm aware of the difference between the x model, and the first model, and honestly, I didn't see the reason to drop a grand extra for the minor memory upgrade, and so forth when I can upgrade the original I ordered. I figure Id save the change and still acquire the sound of the kronos and all its synth engines which I'm excited for. I hope, for now, the memory will get its use and I will be able to download more sample libraries for the kronos. I do all my work in studio with a computer, so I have no problem loading and saving samples on my desktop and transferring back and forth to work with the memory limitations. Although, I do plan on upgrading in the near future. This is my first Korg instrument. If I have any questions or concerns I appreciate having this forum community to guide me through any problems or concerns.

I have very little tech knowledge. I have an original 73 and it's still keeps giving after nearly two years.
Regarding libraries. I don't know what your music style or taste is but QuiRobinez has some brilliant sounds to download.

Good to hear. I'll be teaming my kronos with my virus ti2. What are your experiences regarding memory on the original kronos.. Do you seem to have plenty of space for extra libraries such as QuiRobinez? Do you feel that the original memory is plenty? And can you import and export samples as you please on the computer?

Congrats.....I am in the same boat,,,new non X version. I composed my first song on this monster,..and I love it! This things goes in so many wonderful directions.

I think you'll do fine for quite a long while. It's nice to have the spare change available for some nice expansion libraries. Congratulations and good luck.

Im officially a new korg fan. This keyboard is beautiful.

Basic tips.

Do not forget saving the .PCG file, which consists global settings, banks and set lists.

Also do not forget saving the .SEQ file either, it consists your sequencer data.

You can easily factory reset your Kronos, so try to mess up with settings and learn what they do.

You can overwrite every configuration (programs, combis, set lists and more) just pressing the key REC/WRITE at sequencer. It will be great especially when you are altering your own patches.

As a K73 X owner, I didn't notice the size of the RAM. I used just 1 GB of internal HDD. The non-upgradable difference between non-X and X is CPU. So unless you buy a hammer-action keyboard, I think non-X is enough.

Yea, I bought the 61 key version, and the keybed feels awesome. I dont know whats up with all the talk about on how the kronos build is not up to par, I think its a well made keyboard honestly. I always had second thoughts about korg, but this kronos made me a korg believer. I'm officially a korg fan.. So the only non upgradeable feature is the cpu? I assuming its a better processor. For the extra $$, it didn't sit right with me, considering I'm a struggling musician, and not a millionaire and the extra dough could be used elsewhere... I think the original will satisfy me, considering I do all my recordings at my home studio on the computer with cubase. I just wanted a nice synth action keybed to supplement my virus ti2, with a little xtra on the side.. lol.. Im pretty sure the orginal kronos is plenty of an xtra..lol

I'm a official Korg Fan, I thought id never say/write it, but the kronos made me a believer.

The processor "upgrade" is extremely minor and won't get you noticeably more polyphony. The expandable RAM is only used for sample based libraries - meaning certain libraries offered for HD1 (Sharp's Kronos Assault, Busch's vintage keyboards and other libraries). Any libraries based on the other engines (such as most of Qui's stuff) doesn't use any RAM at all. Only program slots. There are eight completely empty program banks to fill on a new Kronos, so 8x128 sounds. You are free to overwrite any factory patches as well, though you'll run the risk of "breaking" factory combis. Always a good idea to have a backup of your PCGs on disk. Speaking of which, you can also quite easily browse non sample based programs directly from disk. It'll prevent categorized searching and using them for combis, but it's great for auditioning.

In short - there's plenty to explore for a while to come
