Recording Arranger playing and singing - headphones?

I note that many YouTube PA3x performers use ear-buds or open headphones when recording. Why would they use these rather than speakers when recording both keyboard and vocal? Is it to do with room acoustics? I have noticed that some use acoustic panels on the wall behind the keyboard.

Edit - sorry if this is in the wrong group

I guess it's personal - for me, I use headphones (good ones - not ear-buds) so that I can get an almost unblemished sound for mixing and mastering.

Pete,

I also have high quality headphones Beyer Dynamic DT 770. However there are some crazy voices (on Your Tube PA3x but perhaps not native PA ones?) that have stereo bounce effects that drive me crazy using headphones.
