iPad 4 causes Kronos to crash

I just bought the iPad4, when I plug it in using the regular iPad 4 (Lightning) charger cable, the Kronos crashes right away and reboots.
I was hoping to charge my iPad via Krono's USB as I use the iPad for sheet music. The kronos doesn't crash when I use the camera kit adapter, everything works fine there. I've read on a few forums that the iPad 4 requires more USB power than previous iPad models. Some people are having problems charging it even off their MacBook USB power.
I also read that the new iPad design isn't well-suited for USB.
"Many USB ports do not supply enough current to effectively charge the iPad 4. Use the 12W charger that came with the iPad to charge."
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Well, i tried it once. My Kronos didn't crash but the iPad wouldn't charge either. My iPhone will charge but very slowly.

The iPad4 doesn't charge with any standard PC USB connection here, not even with car chargers. It needs either the power adapator or a high capacity accu to charge.

Same here, no crashing no charging with my iPad 4. Since you need power for the Kronos anyway, can't you spare an extra socket for the iPad's charger?

So far I have't had my Kronos crash when connected to my iPad 4 using the iLightning to USB cable. It also doesn't charge but then I wasn't expecting it to.

Standard USB ports output about 500 milliamp of power. Smart Phones and Tablet PC's that charge over adaptors actually are using special USB adaptors that output up to 4 times the normal level of power.
They often require between 1000 to 2000 milliamp to charge. So don't expect the KRONOS to power them. It will probably reduce the speed your battery goes down, but it will not charge them unless you leave them switched off. Even at that it will be a pretty slow charge.

... what about using a docking station for your iPad? These docking stations can connect your iPad via MIDI AND load it at the same time.
This is one:

And this the deluxe version:

You may have to switch the language since I opened the urls on the German site.

I don't think these officially support the ipad4.
This one supports the Lightning connector and should be available soon.

... your are right. I thought they had fixed that in the meantime. Thanks for your correction.

Also, the IO Dock actually blocks all sysex commands, which is a retarded limitation if you want to use it as a midi controller/editor for your Kronos (or anything else). It's really important to thoroughly check the specs beforehand.

What is the best way to connect an iPad 4 to MIDI? Via the Camera Connection Kit? Or via a simple Ligthning to USB cable?

I'd sure like to know that as well. I've tried the Lightning to USB cable be couldn't get anything to happen. Thought it was just me.

Was it an original Apple cable? I have read that Apple has changed something during one of their lateste OS updates so that non Apple cables would not work anymore. Not sure if this is true. Have not tried it myself since I got my iPad only a few days ago.

I currently use an IK Multimedia iRig MIDI plus a 30 pin to Lightning Adapter to connect my iPad4 to my midi gear.

It works ok but does not charge the iPad. I suspect it doesn't charge due to the adapter. When a solution that officially supports Lightning with charging is available I will upgrade to that.

To do anything useful you need the camera connection kit and a regular usb cable. The lightning to usb cable will connect the iPad as a slave device. What you want is to hook up the Kronos the way you would hook it up to a normal computer, so you can use the audio and midi and send to/from the iPad. You need the camera connection kit for that.
