Korg Krome /Midi problems in Logic

Post by Blackroommg »

So I have my Korg Krome connected via midi and I'm using Logic Pro 9. I open a new external midi track and I can record my sound from my Krome to logic and also edit. However when i try to open a new track and change the sound it changes the sound from the 1st external track that I created. I can't seem to find a way around this and I'm sure it's something simple can someone please help!!

Two possibilities come to mind: first have you got both your logic tracks on different midi channels and second have you got the Krome in a multitimbral mode, ie Combi or Sequencer. If you match the Logic midi channels to the sounds you want on the Krome this should solve the problem.
However you may be an experienced music tech user and have tried this so if that is the case then I apologise and would suggest you give a more detailed resumee of your problem.
Hope this helps

Okay Neil, you are a Genius!! That helped thanks a ton. Now the other problem was that for some reason whenever I record anything off of the krome into logic via Midi it doesn't save. For example I can't export anything because the sounds seem to not stay on the track once they are recorded. Do I need to somehow save my session in the Krome and then open it once I open a project in Logic?

Hm, I've never tried recording into a DAW, I don't know if they are able to receive midi data but there is a workaround. If you record your Krome material with the Krome's own sequencer you can save it as an SNG file then when you want to play it along with Logic you can put the midi clock on the Krome to external and use the midi clock on Logic then the two will play happily together. Alternatively you could record your midi material from the Krome as an audio file on Logic then you would have all your tracks together in one place.
Hope this makes sense to you and I'm pleased my last advice was useful.
Good luck

Okay I will definitely try that. I just think I'm missing a small step. I can record from the krome to logic since I'm using midi and it records the notes and plays the sound that I have chosen. But if I try to export/bounce the file from logic it does not export the sounds from the Krome. Is there something that I'm missing as far as setting something up In the krome settings??

I would imagine that since the Krome sounds are not generated by Logic there must be a particular way of exporting, possibly in real time with the Krome actually playing the material. I have never tried this with my own DAW which is Sonar but I know it is quite easy to record external sounds to an audio track which will then be saved with the project and means you don't actually need the Krome switched on when doing future work on the project. It might be advisable for you to scroll down to the DAW section on the forum index and see if any other Logic users can shine some light on the subject, it's not a Krome specific problem.
Sorry I haven't been able to help you more but if you could post any solutions you can find here then it might be useful to other Krome owners working with DAWs.

Good Luck

Neil
