Touch Screen Functionality

I had a go on a Kronos in my local music store the other day and was very impressed. However the touch screen functionality seemed rather limited. I could only change pages with the tabs at the bottom.

Are you able to alter all settings via the touch screen in the same way as on a ipad? Can you touch the envelopes, filters and alter them?

Pretty much everything on the screen is selectable. Once you select something you use the slider(s), data wheel or numeric keypad to edit the values. You don't draw on the screen as you would with an iPad app.

Not that there is an iPad app on this planet that has a GUI anywhere near as deep as a single page on the KRONOS.

Sounds to me like the screen calibration function needs to be run on that KRONOS. Either that or someone has damaged the unit.

Shop floor units always get messed up.

Sharp.

I rather think he expects it to work like an iPad... Like sliding the sliders with a finger etc.

Yeah I was expecting ipad level control. I could alter things with the data wheel but I found that a bit time consuming.

It would be nice but it would also mean fewer parameters per screen because you could never be accurate enough otherwise. It's already cramped as is.

I still think touchscreen/slider/wheel combo is a million times quicker and clearer than just buttons. I think only the Jupiter by Roland has an iPad style touchscreen. And that one misses many physical controls you would prefer in a live situation.

By the way, in case you weren't aware; the value slider to the left changes values quickly, while the data wheel goes very slowly/precisely. You can also use the numeric pad to enter a value directly. I would also go crazy trying to use just the data wheel.
In addition, switching the control surface to "tone adjust" gives you 8 knobs, 9 faders and 16 buttons to instantly edit the most important parameters of a sound.

To chain on this, I actually find the numerical pad really easy whe I want to make quick changes to things like envelope and other parameters. Once you get comfortable with what things do and where things go, it's really easy and intuitive to just tap the parameter on the screen with your left hand and type in the number withy your right hand. Believe me, as someone who has used touch screens in various forms since 2002 (including all the I-thingers), I'm so happy korg didn't go the tablet route with most of the ui elements.

I agree when you get used to the combo you can really move through a lot of things.
