not booting

It gets halfway through the S in Music, then says Now Resetting the System and blinks off and on again. I tried unplugging the USB and using a different power outlet. What does this indicate? I searched the forum, but it was a like a needle in a haystack.

Seems that SSD Linux system partition is corrupted , and in your case format & reinstalling OS is required.
I'm afraid you need an external USB DVD drive and your factory DVDs to accomplish that !

Bummer. I can do that though. I thought I would be taking it in for service and losing it for several weeks, so at least it is a user serviceable problem. This is what I get for not having a UPS, next on my shopping list! Thanks.

Don't take it for granted !!!
Kronos Linux based OS , does not save real time system information so I do not think that OS is vulnerable
to power supply instabilities like your PC !
The good news is that when bios proceeds booting then issue seems to be your storage devices !

I was able to reformat the drive and install the system. It then said "Installing PCM 6/1..". and then Complete, This is still on Disk 1. After that, it won't boot, either with Disk 2 in, or no USB drive plugged in. It gets to that same S in Music and says "System Startup Failed, please disconnect any USB devices and restart."

"Installing PCM 6/1.."
means that 1st of 6 dat files of factory sounds is on loading procedure !
If it stacks there ... then reasonably 2 things might happen :
1) Your DVD1 is unreadable to that point
2) Your DVD drive might not be compatible to Kronos bus
Try from the beginning and let us know !
( BTW unplug any 2nd storage SSD from Kronos )

It's hardly a complete diagnosis, but I had this same behavior when one of my RAM chips became loose. If you're gonna try fixing it yourself (which, frankly, is really easy), make sure it's in tight and the clamps are fully closed. Also, check for any jiggle in the mobo, and tighten any screws that may have gotten a bit loose. Some of mine kept loosening (I guess from vibrations traveling and playing) until I retightened them and put a little bit of glue on/over them. I think it's pretty shitty to have to take these measures yourself, but I took the glue cue from Korg themselves; they obviously used a hot glue gun to fix some thin cables to the mobo. Just don't drip it all over.

I took it in for warranty service. I used the only external DVD drive I could find locally, and it worked fine up until the sound library installation. Even without sounds, it should still boot, but it doesn't. When I added RAM, I had a seating issue where it would boot almost to the end and then fail. This time it's toward the beginning of the boot sequence. I don't really have the stomach for these kinds of worries, not with a keyboard. I love how the Kronos sounds, but I might have to maybe look at something else DSP based.
Start up failure

I had same message after Korg had upgraded my RAM. Had to return the Kronos and they said they had replaced the motherboard.
It could be an unseated stick of RAM?
Best to return for service.

This sounds like a hardware problem. Contact your Korg Distributor (see the link in my signature).

Just to be clear - did you add the RAM yourself?

Yes, I added the RAM myself when I first got the Kronos.

Korg USA said to expect up to 5 weeks for service, but they got it back to me in 2. Thanks Korg! It needed a power supply, 1 stick RAM and SSD. I don't get the power supply being bad when it booted enough to let me install the operating system, but they're the experts. It was apparently a power event that fried everything, even though I had it plugged into two surge protectors. I will not plug it in again until I get a proper UPS unit. Nothing else is sufficient.
