KORG WAVESTATION (NEW USER)
Hello guys and girls. I just recently got a hold of a Korg Wavestation from a friend for $75 version 2.28 8/15/1990, which I think is a great deal. Checked it over a bit and all is good to go. The screen is a bit dimmer then it probably used to be, but not to worried about that right now. I opened her up and replaced the battery with a new CR2032 lithium battery, so that's all good. All controls and stuff works fine! :] I have been for the past few days since I've gotten her, searching the internet world for new patches in sysex format for her. I'm using a program called Bome's SendSX 1.30 which is a great program. Hooked her up with a midi to usb into laptop and sends patches just fine :]
So far I've got a list of nice patches for her, the usual ben hall type and others... my question is, can anyone direct me to more places to find more for it? also can M1 sysex patches be used as well? Or any sysex patches from other synths? Can you use the virtual wavestation .syx files in the hardware wavestation?
Also, sometimes when I load a dump in it, i'll get a metal, distorted aweful noise... I am assuming the program is missing some waves or something and was meant for some other version of WS1?
Also other times I'll load a patch in and a few presets won't play?
Thanks for any help :]

I read that if it happens, take back off, remove battery for 5 to 10 mins and put it back in and it'll reboot the system.... I guess it works for others, so I'll try that. I guess it crashes off and on after extensive sysex loading......

Mate, $75? That's one hell of a great buy
Ok, so since everything from controllers to the keys on your wavestation is fine and in good shape like you posted, let's talk about patches:
I have just about every patch ever made for the Wavestation (they are many!) so if you send me your e-mail i can send you all the patches to keep you busy till next year
Regarding, your question :"also can M1 sysex patches be used as well? Or any sysex patches from other synths?"
-No it can't, the Wavestation can only read syx files created on the Wavestation, it won't read other synths formats.
The hardware Wavestation can read only the syx formats, it can't read the software version format (fxb, wsram, etc...). However the software version can load the syx formats.
Does your WS have the EX expansion installed or is it just the original version (mk1) model?
If is the first version when you load some files some patches won't sound because they are patches that use the extra samples present on the EX version (or on the SR for that matter).
When you get distorted patches is probably errors on the syx transmission, try the program MidiOx for sending patches, is one of the best, and reduce the speed of transmission a bit on the program. You see, modern computers are too fast sometimes for older synths to catch up, you have to send files more slowly.
Hope that helps, and let me know if you want the files
Cheers

Brock,
You may never comeback to the forum based on your initial post results, but if you do, you should know that just removing & reseating the battery will not last very long. The little batteries all die after awhile but they are quite cheap to replace.
If you still have the synth, go ahead and replace the battery to avoid it dying at an inopportune time.
