Bolder collection of samples comes to Kronos

Post by phattbuzz »

Just got an email from this company that has some great acoustic instrument samples. They're getting ready to add 9 volumes of Kronos ready samples. Sounds really good!
I don't know if these sounds were actually played from the Kronos keyboard or this is just a sampling of their samples.

could not trace anything yet on the Bolder website, but the soundcloud demo's are promising

Maybe Dennis Burns of Bolder could enlighten us what the plans are. I see in the bagpipe post that he is on the Forum..

otherwise, could you put the email text you received on the Forum? I'd be interested...

I have one Akai library from Bolder, and it is really good. So I'm sure the result will be excellent once ported to the Kronos, particularly since Dennis is reworking the banks to make use of the Kronos onboard effects.

From Bolder Sounds

Best Of Bolder Collection Coming Soon for the Korg KRONOS!

The Korg KRONOS workstation first caught my attention because I believe it is to be the first hardware synth-sampler capable of streaming samples off its internal hard drive. I've been working with it for about 6 months now, and I am extremely impressed with the sonic quality and programming flexibility.

9 Best Of Bolder volumes will be released soon for the KRONOS - American Folk, Celtic Pipes, Crystals, World Music, Slate Rocks, Granular, Early Music, Pianos and a Miscellaneous Instruments volume.

If you'd like to hear some of the demos created on the KRONOS, here is a SoundCloud Playlist link with current demos.

https://soundcloud.com/bolder-sounds/se ... g-kronos-1

Other single Bolder sample libraries will follow in 2014 like the popular Hammered Dulcimer Trilogy.

Busch.
Kronos 73, Nautilus 61, Vox Continental 73, Monologue, Yamaha Montage 8, Rhodes Suitcase, Yamaha VL-1, Roland V-Synth, Yamaha AvantGrand, Minimoog Model D, Studio Electronics Omega 8, CSS, Spitfire, VSL, LASS, Sample Modeling, Ivory, Komplete 12, Spectrasonics, Cubase, Pro Tools, etc.

There is a thread here on bagpipes sounds that have to do with these sound sets. I have been working with Bolder Sounds on this and I think they are really coming along nicely!

I am in touch with Dennis most days. If you need some information I can probably get it for you if he is not around.

Hello All!

All the Soundcloud demos were created on the Kronos using the Kronos sequencer as well. I wanted them to be created within the Kronos so users could download the EXs with the sequences. A bit of a tedious experience (not so much due to the sequencer, but due to my inadequate keyboard skills).

As to the questions of what, when and how much? -
The 9 Volumes are accurately listed in this thread. There will also be a free volume later in 2014 of selections from Bolder free libraries for the Kronos.

As far as specific instruments in each volume - most of the instruments mirror the Kontakt and EXS version of the BOB Collection. Although I have added a couple new ones for the Kronos (Jazz Guitar and Electric Sitar in the Miscellaneous Instruments and World volumes).

When? I actually was thinking I'd have this library ready to hand over to Korg at the end of September - talk abut wishful thinking! Here in Boulder County we got hit with a devastating flood in mid-September which made the simplest things in life quite arduous. This event slowed my progress even more. Now I am shooting for the end of this year. After that, I have no idea how long it typically takes Korg to do their voodoo to turn this material into EXs libraries and then beta test it.

How much? I don't know yet, but I will do my best to make it an excellent value.

I've had the Kronos since June of this year. I do not claim to be an expert on it, but I have been very fortunate to have the help and expertise of generous people like William Busch (who got me into this mess in the first place :P ), Ed Fenner, Dan Phillips, Sharp and Michele Paciulli. I've probably forgotten to mention a person or 2.

I've always enjoyed working on hardware based samplers, there is this sense of spontaneity with the Kronos that I feel missing in the software sampler world. I started with the Akai S1000, then the Peavey SP, Emu, Kurzweil, Motif and now the Kronos. And of course I was a M1 owner at one time.

I'll be adding more demos as they are created to that Soundcloud playlist.

I hope that answers some questions.

Thanks for your interest!

I've added afew more demos from the BOB World Music volume generated from the Kronos sequencer to the SoundCloud KRONOS playlist if you might be interested in hearing them.

World Percussion Army - this features Darbukas, Persian Drum and Tabla. Ed Fenner sliced and diced a bunch of loops from the original library and then created KARMA GE's for the slices.

South American Flutes
- features Pan Flutes as well as the Brazilian Cavaquinho, a four stringed guitar.

World Atmosphere - Two Native American flutes, Didgeridoo loops and Electric Sitar.
