pa3x to psr710
Can anyone give me a set of instructions to make these two KB's talk to each other.
I've tried the manual and nothing seems to happen. I'm sure there is more controls to set but the instructions are a little lite-on.

Seriously, what do you want them to say to each other - what do you want to achieve?

pa3x to psr710
Thanks pete.
In the manual, it claims that I can control the 710 from the pa3x if I connect midi out pa to midi in 710. That seems wrong but I did it and the volume on the pa was way down till I turned on the 710.
It also shows a diagram using upper 1 2 3 and lower on channels 1-4. I did this. Nothing.
I'm supposed to be able to play yammie styles controlling from the pa.
I dunno. Fab KB but can it do this?
One reason that I want do do this is that I've tried converting the 710 styles to korg styles but I'm not very good at it.
The yammie never gets played anymore because the korg is just so good.

Hi Baz
Yes you should be able to control the keyboards in either direction BUT...
Or are you trying to use Yamaha's sounds in PA3X styles?
Or.......??
From memory of my days with Yamahas and Korgs together, I am pretty sure you can control the Yam just using the global channel on the PA3X. This would mean being in SOUND play mode on the PA3X - then, if channels match you should be able to play the PA3X keybed to play the Yamaha.
This of course would mean that you are simply using the PA3X keyboard to play the Yamaha instead of the Yamaha's own keyboard - is that what you are trying to do?
Sorry but not quite sure what you are trying to achieve here....
Cheers

See page 97 of the S710 Reference Manual for instructions on how to set up your S710 to receive MIDI style control signals. Looks like you can make a custom MIDI template that would match a complementary one on the KORG. This would allow you to play styles on the S710 from the KORG.barry murphy wrote:Can anyone give me a set of instructions to make these two KB's talk to each other.

pa3x to psr710
Pete.
I'm not sure what I'm trying to achieve.
I guess I'm just trying things to see if they work. Is having a hookup between the 2 KBs worth the effort? I don't know so I'm trying it. What do you think.Sorry I'm a bit vague. I'm not actually a good muso or anything.
Thoraldus. Thank you. Ah rocky mountains. Had a look on google. What a amazing place. I think our kimberleys is a close match in beauty.
It didn't occur to me to look at the yammie manual. I will do so. Thank you.

Hi Baz
Firstly, YES, they do work when hooked up together but it all depends on what you want to do and how the MIDI settings and filtering is set up on the keyboards.
Scenario:-
Let's say you have a PA3X-76 and the PSR-s710 (61 note) and you would really like to play the PSR using 76 keys.
You could hook up the two keyboards with one MIDI cable - PA3X-MIDI-OUT to PSRs710-MIDI-IN
(Now I don't have the PSR manual)
Usually these arrangers will respond using the GLOBAL MIDI CHANNEL (which is usually channel 1)
SO, if all the MIDI is configured correctly, you should be able to switch them on and go to SOUND mode on PA3X and play the PSR using the PA3X's 76 keys.
If you had both keyboards going through your sound systems then you may choose to turn the PA3X's "LOCAL" to "OFF" - basically meaning the PA3X will not produce its internal sound.
OK, please do not regard this as a MIDI lesson because I would need both manuals etc and there may be other settings to consider - this was just a scenario in an attempt to assist your understanding.
I guess that if both keyboards were 61 keys then this would be a pointless exercise (unless, for some reason you LOVED the PA3X's keybed feel more than the PSR
I play in my band with 2 keyboards MIDI'd together - PA3X-76 and Kronos-61
I set mine up so that I have 76 keys to play BUT I can also play PA3X styles and have the MIDI set up so that the Kronos sound is played in place of UPPER 1 sound.
This is something you could do with your keyboards too.
If you loved a particular sound on the PSR and wanted to have that as the lead sound (e.g. UPPER 1) on the PA3X whilst playing a style then that is achievable.
Have a think about it and if you come up with some ideas of what you would like to achieve I would happy to work with you to sort it out.
(We could even have a Skype session if you wish)
Cheers
