Hello all, I just bought Kronos 61 and the Kronos is a very new board for me I am not familiar with it I am a motif user normally I thought of trying something new. There are just like few things I would like to know about;

(1). When I turn it on how can I save all factory settings and data as back up because I don’t want to make any overwrite mistakes, change any settings or data. ? Actually I want to know what are the safety instructions please.

(2). I have listened to EXs90 and I really like it I want to buy it for Kronos my but, can you tell me is there enough space in Kronos for the expansion sample sounds (Kronos is not the X version and its not expanded either)? If yes than how can I buy it?

1) Parameter guide page 814 Disk Mode > Save > Save All

2) I know you can buy it from the Korg website. Not sure about all the sizes, someone might be able to give you the exact yes/no. But, with streaming you can get a lot on there. Of course, you can always load things as needed. Really feels like that is not such an issue anymore.

It would be a good idea to go through the manuals and watch the online Korg tutorials. Get to know the Korg terminology and nomenclature, especially if you will be posing a lot of questions here on the forums. The more specific you can be the better help you will be able to get.
as far as backing up goes- save to externally media and even a cloud. You can copy the factory folder. in this way and know that you have all the original factory data.

thank you for all your feedback for question 1, it was very helpful but for question 2 im still not satisfied with the answer because im still unsure to buy the product or not?

I'm waiting for my Kronos to arrive anyway now, so I'm most certainly NOT the one with any definitive answer but my guess would be yes. The library you're talking about is 840 mbs... and I believe it could stream off the hard drive and not have to be completely loaded into RAM.

Here's a quote from Sharp (the creator of the sound set you want to purchase) talking about a different library: "The library contains over 1.4GB of samples and when streaming they use about 120MB RAM."

He's the one with the definitive answer, but until he chimes in here... I'd venture to guess that "yes" will be his answer.

If there is nothing loaded besides factory content I think there is about 180MB of free sample RAM in the Kronos. So 120MB should be fine.

But maybe I wasnt clear - "space in the Kronos" are you saying for everything to be loaded all at once? Because there is space in the Kronos on the drive and changing out sounds is fast and easy.

in global settings you can select the ksc tab in here you can organise what you want to load into memory, i write more dance orientated music so it is not essential i load up a 4gig piano. you can actually go into the factory version 2 exb and select the exbs within and load just individual sounds which you can checkbox so everytime you load your kronos it will remember it, it also shaves a bit of time off the boot time too. There are also roms sounds which dont take up any ram, i have only 2 exbs loaded from the factory sounds which only exlude the german and japanese pianos and some orchestral sounds. the organs and synths etc are generated in real time from the synth itself and take up no memory, so i have actually around 884mb sample ram available.

I'm new to Kronos and am waiting on mine to arrive in mail? Someone here recommended tutorials to you and I think that's a good idea. When I asked on this board for tutorials, here is the info someone sent me.

Can anyone recommend any other good learning tools, such as videos.

I started with a look at the 6-part Korg video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w77zsCHO2Oc. These are also on a DVD that comes with the keyboard.

While you are waiting for your Kronos to arrive, you can read the documentation online. Old versions of the docs (in order of increasing complexity!) are readily available at

These have been updated for the new OS V2.1 and can all be downloaded as part of the OS update package at http://www.gearzonemusic.com/Kronos/KRO ... _2_1_0.zip but this is quite a large download as it includes the new OS and manuals in all languages etc. The smaller file at http://www.korg.com/uploads/Support/USA ... OS_2.1.zip that should include all updated documentation does not contain the new Quick Start or Parameter Guide.
