KP3 Input Volume Knob - crackling/static

Post by roblabs »

After about 2 years, my KP3 is experiencing a slight but annoying problem, whenever I move the Input Volume knob between about 60-80% up, I get a slight crackling and static-y noise. Its minor, but its enough to be heard, and obviously this causes an issue if I'm fading something in. What's the best way to repair this? Would some compressed air do the trick? Or do you think this is an issue with the contacts and this would likely need to be sent in for repairs - if so, does anyone know an estimate of how much this would cost?

Its a common potentiometers scratching/crackling noise problem, the carbon traces are dirty/oxidize/wearingout.

Easy fix just turn the knob a dozen times fast fully to left and to right to clean up the affected area!
And in future as maintenance turn it that way now and then.
In persistence case use contactcleaner.
