Cleaning up the SSD to free up space.

I been tinkering with my Kronos X for about a week now and would like some help on what to delete from the SSD and what not to, in order to just clean up, and free up space. Basically I want to get rid of the expansion libraries that came installed on the Kronos, including their samples and their program or combi's, because I am not going to ever buy them, they are just not for me. I haven't created any sequences or program or combi's of my own, and I still have yet to install the two Free KRS-06, and KRS-06b signature sounds, so the Kronos is pretty stock right now. I have OS 2.1.1 installed and I Have the Factory V2 folder copied onto the HD.

Now on FactoryV2.pcg does that load program names for the sample expansion libraries?

Would really appreciate a little guidance on how to get rid of what I don't use or need without messing up the Kronos.

The EXs libraries are what takes some space. If you're not using the EXs10 to 13, then you can safely delete them to recover alot of space on the SSD. However, make sure you're uninstalling them using the menu function. Otherwise, all invisible data will be left behind, which would defeat the purpose of removing the libraries. The uninstall command is only to be used with EXs libraries that are installed by an installer. It doesn't concern the sample libraries you copy manually on the SSD yourself.

Once you have removed these libraries, then you'll have more than enough space, specially as KRS libraries are not big files at all. It's anything with samples that takes space.

ok so I am still needing help....

I booted kronos, pushed the disk mode button then clicked the utlity tab. There are three main folders...

FACTORY
FACTORY_V2
Korg Options

inside the FACTORY folder I have a folder called EXs Extras and the folder is locked, but I noticed it probably should be to avoid messing up.
inside the Korg Options folder I have the 4 expansion folders you mentioned and the folders are unlocked. The ultility pulldown has a delete option, it doesn't say uninstall. Should I just click delete on each folder for the 4 in the Korg Options Folder?

Here is a screen shot of my option folder. Are the sample hidden?

Factory is the folder with factory sounds pre OS 2.1.1.

Factory V2 is the folder with the modified banks since OS 2.1.1 and the CX-3 engine update. Therefore its content is the same as that of Factory, but with all CX-3 programs modified to take advantage of OS 2.1.1

Factory V2 does not contain the SNG and Preload samples of Factory.

Factory V2 does not contain the folder Extras which gives you access to sounds for EXs libraries 2/3/4.

So you could transfer Extras, SNG and Preload samples to the folder Factory V2 and delete the folder Factory.

Korg Options is the folder where EXs libraries 10 to 13 are installed.

ok so I got the expansion demo's deleted with the disk utility, and HD free space didn't change much, however for users out there that also want to free up their HD from the optional sample data installed for these demo's. You must do it from the Global/Options Info Tab. After deleting the samples of the 4 demo libraries, my HD went from 32gigs of freespace to 43gigs....Yes!

Now on to combining the FACTORY_V2 folder and the FACTORY folder into one Directory that will load everything with latest factory settings. Anyone know how to combine these properly and how to make the Kronos Load everything at bootup?

The simplest is to move the updated files from the V2 folder to the original Factory folder, and select the EXs you want to load in Global.

First - it's not a good idea to delete the FACTORY folder, since it contains backups of the factory sounds and is an easy way to restore the loaded sounds and settings. There is also no practical benefit, since it's only a few megabytes.

Any files other than samples are going to be very, very small in the scheme of things.

As noted by Francois, deleting a KSC file for an EXs does not remove the actual EXs data. The result is that you're left with the sample data taking up space on disk, but no way to load it. If you want to remove an EXs (10 and above only), use the Uninstall EXs command. For more information, search for "Uninstall" in the Parameter Guide (latest version is E6).

Hope this helps.

If you two only know what I just went through....lol.

Lets just say I now have just two folders Factory_V2 and OPTIONS and the FACTORY FOLDER is no more, and thankfully I learned the Global page KSC Autoload. I removed all entries on that page that were linked to the original factory folder KSC's and then re-added all the KSC files from the V2 folder and set FACTORY_V2.KSC to autoload and then i wrote to Global.

Rebooted and all loaded normal.....Shewww!

Good thing for you guys and knowing how to manipulate electronic devices.....lol

@DAN

is having only a Factory_V2 folder going to affect being able to update the OS in the future?

I honestly don't know. To be on the safe side, it might be a good idea to rename the folder to simply "FACTORY" without the quotes.

Factory/Factory V2... to be honest, I keep both, considering how little space they take compared with the space available on the SSD.

FWIW, I now just have the Factory Folder and Korg Options Folder. Everything is V2 and the Kronos is set under KSC autoload, to, preload_V2.KSC. I had to remove all the entries and then re add them from the updated FACTORY folder. Then I did write to global. Now the Kronos Boots everything it needs from one the one folder.

I just hope the editor doesn't have a problem syncing and creating a new set.

The editor doesn't know anything about files on the KRONOS disk.

Make sure that you understand the difference between files on the SSD and the data in memory. The editor only deals with the latter.
