I'm discovering that the Kronos really is a great performance keyboard. 'Love the keybed & the natural expressiveness of the sound engines. 'Getting great tonewheel organ presets now...thanks Korg for the CX3 improvements!!!

As much as I love the EP-1 engine I still really miss the dry, barky (without the bell tone) rhodes MkI sound. I think the kronos will become my dream keyboard the day this MkI model is addded.

Have you tried Burning Busch's free sample based Rhodes from The Kronos Blog?

It should definitely be possible with EP-1. You can adjust the level of the 'attack noises' to zero. Which basically just gives you the decaying 'sustain' tone.

Stick a compressor on to keep it punchy.

No, only limited possibilities to get that sound from EP1 so far. And the attack belongs to the bark sound:just not as silky bell tone.

You can get much closer to a rocking funky bark sound than the factory presets do. But you can't nail it for three reasons I already mentioned:
- no Typical Mk I stage sound in the EP1 sample base (early Suitcase, MkII and Mk V instead)
- no modelled adjustments for horizontal tine angle and distance to pickups (essential for the bark sound we talk about)
- no Fender Twin/Reverb/Blues amp like overdrive suited for EP in the Kronos amp section

You still get fantastic Rhodes sounds, better and more than from any other hardware synth. It's just hard to get this special one. Yamaha and Clavia did it the other way round: there the bark sound is prominent in their small sample base, though in a very lifeless way without the original detail and dynamics.

the kronos blog looks like a great resource. the rhodes mkV is nice. it doesn't have the dedicated effects & other benefits of the EP-1 engine but it still helps. thanks
