iPad Docks

So according to Focusrite, their new iTrack Dock is going to be $199 and shipping around May/June. What makes it great is that it has the same preamps as the Scarlett series and is compatible with both iPad Mini and iPad Air (Lightning Connection only).

Alesis also just announced the new IO Dock 2 which is the follow up to their original, and now has both 30-pin and lightning connection so it is compatible with all iPads (not sure about mini's). No price or release date that I've found yet.

And lastly, there's the Behringer iStudio, which is 30-pin only and is priced at $149. I've heard from a few reviews that the main output on this unit has a few problems with 'crackling noises' and such with certain apps.

My question is what dock would be best overall for the user? I currently have a 3rd Gen iPad, which is 30-pin but that new Focusrite iTrack almost makes me want to get a new one!

It remains to be seen whether or not Alesis is really able to make something like that work. They disappointed me to no end with their games with the original IOdock, which sucked. And I still have it, although nowadays I just use it to charge my iPad.

I would bet on Focusrite at this point, they're yet to deliver a single product that disappoints me.

You also have the Griffin Studio Connect. My only complaint is that stereo audio input is a mini jack. But I am happy with mine and don't have any problems. They are supposed to have a new model in the fall with improved audio in but that's a long wait if you need something now.

I am loving my studio connect with lightning connector also. Both studio connects have come way down in price also. without lighting I have seen as low as 39 dollars and I got the lightening version for 88 dollars.. Sweet...

I've had no problems with my IO Dock until the tip of one of my TRS cables broke off in the main output, so I had to send it in for a refund since at the time it was already discontinued, hence why I was considering the Behringer iStudio (30-pin connection). But with the IO Dock 2 on the way, I might hold on for that, though it'd be nice to have those Focusrite preamps, but I'd have to budget out for a whole new iPad.

Also, I've seen the Griffin Studio Connect and it's great, but I'm looking for more input/output options when it comes to a dock for my iPad.

I would love the Studio Connect HD. But with a date that far off it may be something completely different or never happen at all. I will definitely swap out my current Studio Connect if it ever comes out.

Just started using a Behringer iStudio with my iPad2 running iOS7 - quite pleased with it so far, running Korg MS20 and Polysix apps, as well as Thor, Sunrizer, Arturia's SEM and Mini, using AudioBus too into MultiTrack. Controlling it with a Alesis Vortex keytar at the moment to augment my main live rig for bigger stages.

Happy to answer any questions.

I'm wondering how many inputs the Focusrite dock has? I've got a 4th gen iPad with the lightning connector. I've been holding off getting an interface until I see one using the lightning.
I want at least 8 adjustable inputs. I don't need phantom power as I also use tube preamps sometimes. It would be handy but not necessary. I've heard the Scarlett series sounds amazing so far.
