Distorted sounds - Output level problem

Recently I found that some of my sounds (including factory sounds) sound distorted if I use the main volume above 50%. This is especially noticeable when I use piano sounds is very annoying.

The weird thing is that this started a few weeks ago. I didn’t have this problem before.

Also, I must say that the “noise” or “distortion” is noticeable both on L/R outputs and phones and that using the same phones (the phones I used before with no distortion problems) I get a clean sound in my Triton Extreme even in much higher volume levels.

I checked the set list EQ to find out if that could be the problem but it is untouchable (every band frequency is set to 0) and I even bypassed it to be sure. The problem remains.

I don’t know what to do anymore!!

Any suggestions?

Hi !

Contact your Korg dealer/service. The output board mast to be change. This is specific for mute circuit damage.

Kind regards,
Dan

I would not be quick to assume a hardware problem; if these are your own custom sounds, it's possible that you simply need to turn down the internal levels. In general, it's best to contact the support department of your national Korg Distributor - see the link in my signature.

I had exactly the same problem. This is bug in one of mute circuit transistors. After replacing of bad transistor everything is ok.

In building a combi using the German and Japanese pianos, yes they take up some room but I now have a honky-tonk and normal full sounding piano I like, I inadvertently got some levels to high and with more velocity on the keys my outputs would break up. A bit if fiddling with controls I barely new, levels I didn't actually understand and the direction of the great people here I was able to tame things.

I also noticed some stock sounds will break up on me but I found from some searching and asking those were planned that way.

My headphones where breaking up also for a bit until I cleaned the connection the 1/4 trs on the headphones was apparently a bit oxidized as was the jack itself. A bit of electrical contract cleaner on the plug, power was off overnight FWIW, and inserting it a few times then making sure it was dried took care of my issues.
