Fusion alert!

Going a bit old school here. With this piece, I attempted to answer the question, "can you groove slow in 17/16 time?" Hopefully the answer is yes. I started with a 17/16 metronome loop @ 60bpm and layed down a simple bassline over it. I then tracked the live drums and put the organ and rhodes on top of it, trying to "jam" with myself by matching up the drum riffs. I think it works in some spots... some spots not so much. It's not perfect, but I think it's a cool moody piece, and gives me a bit of a Return To Forever vibe when I listen to it.
Instrumentation:
Live drums
NI Scarbee bass VSTi
VB2 organ VSTi
Korg Kronos "PurgatoryCreek MV Fusion" Rhodes patch

Nicely done Jeebustrain. I, too, have a passion for odd time signatures.

Thanks guys! I love Manfred Mann!
I realized after I had uploaded the wrong version. The one up now has a bit more compression in the right places (making the rhodes pop a bit more) and I tweaked the overall sound a bit.

Very cool. I especially liked the riff at about 2:20. That to me was the Return to Forever part. I recently picked up their Live 2011 cd. You should check that out.
If you don't mind a little criticism, I would have made the drum tracks a bit busier. Not in all of the parts. But I've found that here and there it makes them more interesting.
Hope you don't mind me saying so.
I really liked whAt you are doing. It's a nice change from what I hear on a regular basis.
Thanks!

haha - thanks. Regarding the drum parts.. I have a tendency to make my drumming a bit
too busy most of the time. I was purposely trying to lay back and just groove. I wanted to leave enough space for the other instruments to stretch out. I think I left enough of my usual diddling in there, though that I usually put in my playing, lots of cymbals, cup chimes, random drags and ruffs across the snare instead of backbeats. You would have REALLY not liked the first couple runs I did - There were almost no fills, whatsoever
I don't have that disc you're talking about, but I think I actually saw them on that tour (with Zappa Plays Zappa). They absolutely killed. I love the lineup with Gambale.

Nice mood! Maybe you could build some sort of song structure. Well done!

It's removed the same tour I think plus they have Jean Luc Ponty with them.
It's called the Mothership Returns. I highly recommend it.

That was supposed to say it was FROM the same tour. Doncha just despise suggestive systems?
