[issue]Kronos sounds better on headphones

Hi

Im using Kronos plugged on Behringer Ultratone 3000FX, with both Left/Mono + Right connected. I tried the stereo channels (L + R), I tried connecting each signal on separated channels, tried eq and still the sound of piano on headphones is flawless but on behringer ampl it sounds weird, with no weight, a lot of middle, so... Am I missing something here? I mean, the headphone is not a good one, it is a headset for pc, nothing fancy.

The cables are not balanced, can this be the problem? I heard balanced cables avoid interference but, can the unbalanced ones trim somekind of frequency or something?

I'm sorry for the newbish question and for the bad english, guys.

Thanks.

The amp you mention is mono; it has one tweeter and one woofer. It will not sound as good as a stereo setup, and depending on the Programs and effects used, phase cancellation can affect the sound. The first step would be to simply use the mono output from the Kronos. A better solution would be to use a stereo amplification setup (the manufacturer of that amp recommends using a pair of them for stereo).

The sound quality of the Kronos is excellent, right up there with high end stereo, so that's what I use at home. A 600W/channel amp into full range speakers. And I use a 20 ft unbalanced cable with no problem. If I take it out I use a couple of cheap amps and they don't sound particularly good but the audience isn't listening to the quality.

I am glad that owners are digging into their audio chain.

its a must to play the Kronos in stereo, assuming you or the audience is interested in that effect. The Kronos programs and FX are designed in stereo.

My optimum(home) situation is Kronos audio straight into good to high quality studio monitors. Nothing in the way, no mixer to detract from the quality.

Thanks for the replies!

So what are the recommendations for a good pair of monitor or maybe a stereo amplifier?

I tried with another mono amp along with my ultratone, the quality is really better but still I can hear the difference between the headphones and the amp, and it sounds better on headphones. Is there anything affordable I could search? Im not looking for volume power or something, just the Kronos piano sound the way it was supposed to sound, so I can play it at home.

Thanks again!

I use a pair of Yamaha HS8's with the HS80 Subwoofer. Simply…..Heaven.

I'm using SPDIF into my audio interface for recording. Piano sounds are amazing in the headphones straight from the Kronos but not when recorded into Logic anf played back through my monitors. I'm thinking this might be a sign that I need new monitors. :)

I agree with one of the previous posts and recommend just a set go good studio monitors. I use KRK Rokit 8s. Playing live presents a different set of circumstances/problems unless you use in-ear monitors. I do, and run them in stereo and it sounds great; especially not having to compete with those other loud stage instruments.

In my humble opinion, the Behringer Ultratone 3000FX is not a particularly great sounding speaker in the first place. How does it sound playing other material through it, such as a CD?

You might be better off with a pair of full-range powered PA speakers (if you need volume and reach), or if it's just for home/studio use, a pair of powered monitors.

Headphones are the closest thing to am acoustically perfect environment. I recommend using in-ear monitors, although that has its own set of challenges. Definitely better than hauling a set of speakers and it helps with the onstage volume wars. A decent IEM set up will probably cost as much as a decent set of speakers. The sound of the Kronos is worth the investment. Look at Shure and Sennheiser. The earbuds (for want of a better term) are crucial in the equation.

Headphones don't help the audience much. :p

They might, depending on the quality of the performance. ;)

Depends on the audience.
