My latest efforts..... the vJD-800 VST for PC, Mac and AU.

This is my first expandable VST. The additional expansion that are in the works for this will push this VST deep into Pads, Ambient, Soundscapes and other worldly sounds. So if that's your kind of thing, you might like to keep an eye on this.

Sounds great..

Did you use a framework developing that, or did you code it yourself?

A bit of both as the frameworks own native file format had limitations which I was forced to find ways around. The benefits of doing it though means I could compile all this to work on PC and MAC which is something I traditionally never do. I normally only write PC software.

The best sounds are yet to come. While the preload data included now is very nice, I've been super busy creating expansions for this which will be pure heaven for anyone looking for pads, ambient sounds, and soundscapes. It will be like having many JD-800's

Very Nice! I was considering sampling the heck out of my JD-990 and getting rid of it.

Do you find it's easier/better to just sample though whole sound (Perhaps sans FX unless there's something "special") or sample the waveforms straight out and flat and recreate them? Do you think the added Flexibility would be worth it? I haven't compared the architectures enough to figure if I could translate this easily.

I'm considering making my own library for the Kronos. Commercial or not yet I have no idea. Guess it depends how well it comes out!

Looking to thin the herd so as time comes available, so this is what I'm thinking for a couple of sample based synths I have.

In 90% of cases Sampling never really works...especially on synths like JD
and few others. It will be a waste of time. What makes this synths WHAT
they are is their ability to manipulate the Sounds, once Sampled, its Static,
probably it won't even sound like a JD synth. Then you will be better of
Sampling from some VSTs, you might get higher quality sounds.

Very recognisable, Thats in general how frameworks work, they seem to offer almost everything you need, yet almost is never enough...

Looking forward to play around with this if i ever get the chance.

A great machine. Have one here.
They are pretty easy to sell here in Ireland, hard to get hold of though as they go for really good money. It's a popular rack, especially I you have the vintage card installed.

Don't think I could ever bring myself to sell my one.

Not so easy to answer. The method that offers the least frustration will be to sample the complete sound, but you cannot sample how the sound engine reacts. It's only a static snap shot of a given moment. So if you use that method, you will have to do a lot of work elsewhere in whatever your going to try play back the sounds in.

Going with raw samples, the JD-990 has 3 banks of 64 sounds, so from a workload point of view if your going to recreate the sounds from their multi samples, that's going to take a very long time going parameter by parameter though every sounds. JD-990 parameters are also most certainly not going to match whatever software sampler your going to use to play back the sounds too.

Great.
Food for thought. Same goes for any other sound designer reading this. I'm available to work with anyone interested in wanting to see their sounds as a commercial VST.

You've got my interest now :-) this seems very good indeed. how's the stability? I could do with the Mac version but as I play a lot live lately, I need it to be rock solid.

No issues with stability at all to be honest. Haven't noticed anything even remotely odd yet. I've personally only had limited use with the MAC version as I'm a PC user. It's my brother-in-law who's been testing the MAC edition and there doesn't seem to be any difference in stability between either the PC or MAC. It hasn't failed in any situation yet.
