Problem recording Kaoss Pad effects into DAW

Post by August Fanon »

Hello everyone,

I have a Kaoss Pad (KP3), and am experiencing some problems recording effects into my DAW (FL Studio). I have the Kaoss Pad output line running into one of the audio interface inputs and one of the outputs of the audio interface running into the line-in of the Kaoss Pad. I've done a little research and it seems that this type of connection (which seems pretty intuitive to me), causes a feedback loop.

When connected like this I get a weird buzzing noise, plus the audio signal is really low (almost inaudible). I think the lack of signal strength might be due to the fact that my audio interface (a M-Audio Fast Track Pro), has no pre-amp on it.

I figure I could buy a pre-amp which I am probably going to do because I need it to record vocals anyway, but I'm not sure if adding a pre-amp to my signal chain is going to solve the issue of the feedback loop. If anybody out there knows whether this would be a good work around to my problem please let me know.

Also if anyone knows of another way to connect the Kaoss Pad to my DAW (FL Studio), in a way that generates a clear signal to record effects without adding a pre-amp that would be a great help to.

adding a pre-amp to the situation will only make the feedback way worse.

You need to find some way to separate your incoming and outgoing signal. If you're using a single DAW to play stuff out, add effects then input it again to record you'll never be able to avoid the feedback loop.

only way to eliminate the feedback loop is to somehow STOP the incoming audio from playing back out thru the outputs, but in doing so you wont be able to hear what you're doing with the effects unless listening thru the headphone out on the kaoss pad. If your audio interface automatically sends the incoming audio back out the outputs and there is no way to work around that.. no dice.

if however it relies on the software the audio is going into to regulate the outgoing volume of the incoming signal you may have a chance.

daw (with all inputs at zero/off) -> audio interface out -> kp3

kp3 -> audio interface in -> separate recording software (with output volume at zero/off)
