A Few Frustrations???
Hi all - thanks up front for all the contributions on this forum. I learn a lot from other's experiences & I appreciate the generosity of those that have constructive things to say.
So I recently acquired a Kronos61 & am spending time reading, experimenting, playing & learning. Having spent a couple years with my Kurzweil PC3 I can say some things are more logical on the Kronos BUT some apparently simple tasks yet evade me. So be patient with a couple questions I have:
1)I'm scrolling through stock programs, find one I wish to explore later, so I say it to a User Bank. Now I want to go directly back to the same program in the factory bank & continue my scrolling. Is there an easy way to do this? Currently I waste a lot of time calling up the correct bank & re-scrolling to the sound I was just auditioning.
2)I'm editing individual samples in a multi-sample program. Is there a way to SOLO only the sample I'm working on to hear my effects on just that sample? The PC3 has one switch to isolate any layer to accomplish this.
3)I know this has been discussed but can anything be done to improve the response of the K61 keybed. I like the action a lot BUT when I play a deeply sampled Rhodes sound from the PC3 keybed and control the K61 via Midi I get marvelous results. Playing the exact same sound directly on the Kronos kind of sucks. I have adjusted the Global settings for response curve etc & this does indeed allow the deeper samples to come out, however the total dynamic feel is lost. it sure seems the Midi 0-127 range is not evenly distributed.
FWIW I have updated the OS.
Also Thank you guys that take the time to provide professionally sampled sound sets! This is one of the main reasons I acquired the Kronos. I'm looking forward to giving something back!
Cheers,
Larry

1) don't save it to a user bank (unless you have edited it), simply mark it as favorite.
2) not sure what you mean here, a multisample is something distinct from a program. Are you in sampling mode or in program mode?
3) other than setting the velocity curve, no. Most people are pretty happy with the 61s keybed, so I don't think Korg feels there needs to be a "fix". That said, if you're talking specific sample based programs like a HD1 based Rhodes, it's not that hard to adjust the velocity layers.

The PC3 has a weighted hammer-action, right?GRISWOLD3 wrote:I like the action a lot BUT when I play a deeply sampled Rhodes sound from the PC3 keybed and control the K61 via Midi I get marvelous results. Playing the exact same sound directly on the Kronos kind of sucks.
I never came across an unweighted keybed that has the same response, control and feel as a weighted keybed, especially when playing piano or epiano sounds. You have any other unweighted to compare? I own a trinity pro, and it has a rocksolid and precise 76 keybed, but playing piano is no fun, for me.
The best unweighted i ever played was the 76keys from Roland G1000. Roland VA76/G70 and also Emu e4k had the same i believe. The keys are a bit longer and have a good grip, even the black keys. Can't understand why this model is not used more often and by other manufactors.
Best regards, Robert

Nope, semi-weighted (Fatar TP-8). PC3x/PC3K8 has weighted (Fatar TP-40/L).bobmusic wrote:The PC3 has a weighted hammer-action, right?
Okay thanks all for the help so far & I'll be more specific. Sorry if I don't speak fluent Kronos yet!
What I am trying to understand in my "multisample' question relates exactly to what SanderX mentioned. I have loaded a HD1 Rhodes patch from the generous Mr. Busch. In program mode I access Osc1 and am adjusting the individual level, vel. curve etc on MS1. Is there a way I can hear ONLY the output of MS1. If so I am missing it, if it's not possible I'll move on but it sure seems like a handy tool.

What Sander said- just be sure that when you "mark it as a favorite" that you also "Write" it, otherwise it will not come up as a Favorite again later.SanderXpander wrote:1) don't save it to a user bank (unless you have edited it), simply mark it as favorite.

Simply face it!
There's nothing you can do about the s**t keybed I think is just as bad as a Yamaha psr keybed.
People that don't see any differences are not piano enthusiasts or if they play piano is pretty much soft cock playing like the titanic them songs lol
Anyway, I have no advice but just whinge about the poor keybed, shame on me

^ what he said ^SanderXpander wrote:Sorry but the difference between a Yamaha PSR keybed and the K61 is massive. I play them both from time to time and there is no way they are on comparable levels of quality, the K is much much better. That said I still don't like playing any unweighted bed for piano.

Personally I think the keybed of the K61 is one of the best unweighted actions I've played & agree it is not optimal for piano playing. I also love the Kurz PC3 76 semi-weighted action for piano & dynamic sounds.
So my original post was questioning the fact that the same sound triggered from 2 keyboards sounds radically different. I monitored the MIDI out of each keyboard & found the PC3 does reach 127 easily with my heaviest playing. The Kronos however peaks at about 121 when I nail one note with all I've got. I have experimented with the global response curve & it is currently set = 5. I'm currently using one Rhodes sound to experiment with but I can see this being an ongoing compatibility issue. So my question really becomes- is this scenario typical, am I missing something & are there any suggestions on work arounds.
BTW I have edited the samples in this Rhodes sound to my liking on the Kronos, however if I then play it from the Kurz it is too bright & loses it's authenticity. I could always store 1 sound for internal playing & 1 sound for external triggering but that seems like a lot of redundant work. Besides this issue I absolutely love the Kronos.
