Enjoying Kronos superior sample playback capabilities!
Loading partial samples into RAM and streaming the rest from SSD has got to be the most exciting thing to happen to the keyboard sampling section in a long time for me....I just started working on my personal Ensoniq SD-1 soundfont collection I sampled awhile ago....Over 600 soundfonts and more than 5 gigs big....I can't think of a single keyboard workstation that could handle this kind of project other than the Kronos currently....I just finished the first bank of 128 and it loads a little over 200MB in RAM with 1.4 gig streaming from the SSD....Most workstations would be close to maxing out on RAM at this point...The Motif XS I had, had 2 gig RAM so I would have had to make this project into about 3 different libraries and browsing the entire library would not have been feasible just in loading times alone....The fact that I have enough user banks to put all 600 plus patches, plus enough memory (between RAM and SSD) to support the sample data is just exciting....Even the SD-1 keyboard couldn't do this as the ROM cartridges only stored 60 patches at a time plus the 2 internal (ROM/RAM) patch banks gave you 180 patches max to choose from.....I can see me looking into a second SSD when my warranty runs out....LOL....moon

Re: Enjoying Kronos superior sample playback capabilities!
I agree. I've combined libraries from the OASYS, along with sounds sampled from other keyboards, SFX, etc. I turn on the Kronos and it's all there, every time. Just awesome! 24 bit streaming from disk, via audio tracks is also amazing.MoonMusic wrote:Loading partial samples into RAM and streaming the rest from SSD has got to be the most exciting thing to happen to the keyboard sampling section in a long time for me........I can't think of a single keyboard workstation that could handle this kind of project other than the Kronos currently
I've done some bitching about things, like non-transferable sound libraries, but at the end of the day, nothing beats the Kronos' overall capabilities. I hope Korg keeps supporting it, because it's worth it.
