FWIW my Kronos was shut off twice during the disc flashing. After that I had multiple combos and programs that would emit a seriously loud howl. Very annoying. I did not need to reload the whole OS just unchecked the autoload items the booted without most and ten rechecked the m problem solved. My point is any time power interrupts the disc accessing you can create problems software for sure and possibly hardware. With yours definitely having down this there is obviously new error introduced. Get some service help.

I am on mac, but I recall that windows PC ' s will prompt you to ' close correctly and restart ' in the event of a sudden shut down

So, I am not very surprised that the Kronos os is extra touchy. Plus there have been 1000's of posts here about UPS devices to use

Yep I'm on a UPS but my kids tripped over the power cord, darn thing doesn't fit very tight which was a good thing!

I'm a bit confused. I just got a brand new 88-note Kronos X (to replace my Oasys) and although I was pretty sure I had left it turned on, I showed up to my studio several times to find that it was off (and the power switch was set to off)

I found a reference to an Auto Power-off function but the items in this thread suggest that there's a problem with the Kronos switch.

What's the scoop?

There is an auto off function. Mine is set to 30minutes so at 30 it shuts itself off. Maybe yours has this as well.

Four weeks ago, I had a power switch failure as well. Voerman KORG importer in the Netherlands repaired it skilfully and correctly within my warantee period. Took them 10 days and I could personally bring it there and get it back.

I am just happy it didn´t happen on stage.

My Kronos X came back after 10 days too....it was the faulty power feed...they replaced with the new one....still I have I sour feeling about it...my Kronos is almost brand new and already beeing fixed....

Are you sure? The timing of the power-off very much looks like a circuit breaker.

Not 100% but looking at the service manual, it's looks clear to me that it's not wired to be a trip switch and that it's just a standard rocker switch.

He original poster can easily verify this too by simply flipping the switch while there's no power cord connected to the KRONOS. To me it looks like the spring in the switch has simply moved.

According to the Srvice Manual Kronos X has power switch with Auto Shut-down, controlled by main board,
Kronos (not X) has simple switch without this function.

@Bertotti OK --- there seems to be a mechanical aspect to this since the switch physically moves to OFF. So is this new mechanism a weak point? Are the others on this thread complaining about power switch problems also using a Kronos that has this auto power function?

Last thing I need is to set up on stage in the afternoon, then show up at the theatre for the show only to find the Kronos off, if it is NOT being triggered by the actual AutoPower system

Well I do not know that it is a weak point. I only seem to recall a couple people with power switch issues and I am not sure they were even the X modle. Mine switches itself off a lot and I have not had an issue with it. I know you can also turn the auto off feature off. Mine shows me the auto off time right after the boot up is done then it vanishes after a very short bit. I would watch the start up and see what yours is set to, if you don't see it go into the system and look it up. Go to global, click the drop down tab in the top right and auto power off is the bottom choice, pick it and four choices are available, 30 min, 1 hour, 4 hour, or disabled.

edited to correct location of drop down, thanks Diego5150 for catching that. I have an x61 version 2.1.1 and just fired it up to double check, this is how mine is. Global, top right says basic setup with a down arrow to the right of it and when picked auto off is the bottom choice. I am pretty sure we updated the software about the same time so I really don't know why it would be different. I could email you a picture if you like.

I have the Kronos 73X and when I go to Global I see no power on / off options and my drop down menu is on the right side.

I have never (knock on wood) ever had any issues with leaving my Kronos on or it ever shutting off by itself.

Edited my Post thanks Diego5150! I can't help but wonder why you don't see it. Global, basic tab other then the left bit just like I typed it.

No problem Bertotti, I guess the 73 and the 61 differ because from my basic setup drop down menu I have the following:
Write Global settings
Set Program User Bank Type
Change all bank refrences
Touch Panel Calibration
Half Damper Calibration
After Touch Calibration
LCD Setup
Update System Software
Display Public ID

That is it there nothing regarding power auto shutoff. Please e-mail me the picture and I will do the same. Thanks Bertotti.

Diego5150 and I compared our pictures, is there some programming difference between the x 61 and x73? Mine clearly has the auto shut off and his does not. Why would the actual options be different? We all use the same manual don't we?

That's a mystery... I think it is related with the motherboard used on the Kronos. Read this: Kronos -- Shuts down after install of OS 2.1
