Question on midi dump receive/send to external sound modules

Can the KRONOS receive/send midi dumps from/to external sound modules and serve as a repository of some kind? Didn't find an answer in the OG or the PG of the KRONOS manuals ...

With my old Kawai hardware sequencer I could record a midi dump (SysEx) from a sound module, save it down to a track and later send it back to this module to set whatever was inside the dump data.

Since I didn't find in the documentation that the KRONOS is supporting such an operation (I suspected a description it in sequencer mode sections) I didn't want just to do the experiment and end up with a mess ... ;)

Background: Having sound modules with little patch memory it would be great, just to upload the "fitting" banks/sounds with or before a song is played.

Anybody with some experience to share? Thank's :)

Yes, the Kronos can act as a MIDI filer. To save external synths' data, the command is in Disk Mode -- Save Exclusive. See Parameter Guide pg 843. To send the data back to your external synths, in Disk Mode browse to the EXL file and use Load and Transmit MIDI SysEx Data, see pg 830.

@HardSync

Many thanks for your quick help ...

I found it in the manual - just what I needed.

I never had a look inside the "Disk Mode" section I must confess - I was fixed too much to the Sequencer/Combi sections... ;)

I tried it with a Hammond Xk1. The Kronos received the data just fine and I saved the file. When I went to send the data back from the Kronos to the XK 1 there was some erratic behavior in the XK1 in normal operating mode. I left the transmit interval time to the default 00.0 seconds. Should I have added maybe a few seconds in that parameter? Ultimately I wound up resetting the Xk1 redoing all my presets manually . I guess I should try to find another way to file the data that I know works, and then try the Kronos again. I would like the Kronos be my data filer so I don't have to pack extra gear to gigs.

So I did see sysex dump from one Hammond xk1 to another Hammond xk1 and I still have the symptoms described above. So it's a Hammond Suzuki thing. But yes the Kronos can act as a SysEx librarian.
