Setting Up Audio

Hi everyone, I am trying to setup the Kaoss pad 3 through my E-mu 1820m soundcard and into Ableton Live 9.
The patchmix software seems to be routing signals in and out. I have added an ASIO strip out on channel 3/4 and done the same on the breakout box going in and out on 3/4. RCA connections to the line in and out on Kaoss pad.
I have set up a return channel in Ableton and added an external audio effect setting to in and out 3/4. When I turn up a send I seem to just get that channel increase in sound but can't do anything on the Kaoss pad.
Could someone point me in the right direction please?
