Kronos as Interface?

Just out of curiosity? Is anybody here using their Kronos as a Midi interface with their computer? I'm hoping to get away without having to buy a Midi interface. Money's getting short. I figure that with the USB connect I can use the Midi connections on the back of my Kronos to hook up what ever other mid synths that I want to.
Is this possible?

To use Kronos as a standard midi controller without a dedicated midi interface in between? Sure you can.

Never tried it, but you should be able to:

NOTE: MIDI from the USB A port is not echoed to the 5-pin MIDI outputs.

Computer - USB to Kronos Then Kronos - Midi out to Other device - Midi in then Other device - Midi thru to Other device - Midi in, etc.

I might be wrong but I don't think there's any interaction between the MIDI over USB and the MIDI over standard MIDI outputs on the Kronos.

What Yuma says is correct, the Kronos can not be used as a midi through from its usb input.

The example that crazylounyc shows will work by having the Kronos as a controller keyboard.
USB from the computer will only be local to the Kronos.

However, the simplest soultion is to use an usb/midi interface for the other instruments......there are affordable single cable adaptors available or,as you already know, other choices of multi port interfaces etc.
If you only want basic usb/midi connections,go for the cable type.....even several of them should work(depending on computer usb port availabillity etc).

Best Wishes.

That's probably the rout that I'm going to have to take then. At least the cable isn't expensive. I've reently spent a lot on computers and then my wife lost her job. Ouch!

Yeah. It totally sucks. We had also been talking to our bank about starting a plan so we could buy a house. I don't know what houses in your city or country cost but here in Toronto anything decent costs about a half a million dollars. It's crazy. We saw one place that was a dump and they were asking $529,000.

Where I live they can be that high but you can still live in a nice normal area not an all high faulted area and be under 200k. even low 120k if you get lucky. Go to an older area with very small homes and be around 100k. I watched a house hunters in your area and it was insane the asking prices! Seems they were getting them as well. I no longer live in a town, much happier now and can get as loud as I want.

Interesting topics lately about using Kronos as midi and audio interfaces. I have not tried but I do need both since presons stopped supporting my fire box years ago for my mac. This could be a simple way to not spend money.

Thinking about midi interface when I woke up I was wondering if there was a midi interface that you could control from a few assigned pads? Make since say you have a couple boards and maybe the volcas or bass station and a brute, have a few keys mapped that would route different combinations of midi device to different boards at any given time even mid song. I know Kronos has an external mode but it, as far as I know won't direct midi device to other boards in multiple configurations. Sadly I do not have a host of external midid devices to try with! I promise I am working on adding a few though! lol

Hope your wife finds a new role very soon, for more pay!

We're definitely looking out in the country in a small town. The problem is that even in small towns prices for houses is climbing at a crazy speed. They're still cheaper than in the city but quickly getting out of the average persons reach.

As for midi interfaces, I'm probably looking at the Roland USB to midi cable kit. My thing is, I don't really want to be repatching midi cables all the time but I don't really see a way around it without spending a chunk of money.

You could try London.

Where I used to live (Camden London) the average price of a 3 bedroom house is £1,447,000 so that is 2,658,162 Canadian dollars.

Nope. Buckingham Palace. I was just joking, actually! I haven't been to London since 1988. Would love to go back for a visit though. I have family in England. Mainly around the Oxford area.
