mini kp2 power issue, battery and AC, always switches off

has anyone else had this problem?
it's driving me CRAZY!
brand new AA batteries, about 1 min later, it dies. often won't restart.
bought an AC power adapter, the input for the power is SUPER sensitive, and if I move the mini kp2 even slightly it dies.
i got it brand new but have had it too long to return it, i didn't really get around to using it til now.
any suggestions would be helpful, or commiserations if i just have a faulty one.
