You don't have to have an ilok dongle but you do need an ilok account which is free....I just got my ilok code and haven't installed anything yet but Eventide makes some great stuff so I'm excited.....Get it before July 8th or it will cost $249 after that.....moon

Never seen this before, doesn't look like a DAW. I read the description in the link, but couldn't figure out what its used for.

Anything that uses an iLok is Evil, even if it's free.

It's a plugin to use in your DAW. But yes, you need the iLok software on your computer which very nearly qualifies as a virus and doesn't come with an uninstaller.

It's good to find out that it uses iLok. I'm not even going to bother going to their site now.

It's actually pretty good.

NO, it does not need iLok, you just need the iLok Manager installed.
As far as iLok goes, i have 2 of them and prolly over 20 000$ software on
them...never had a problem. I still don't understand why people complain
about them...i am not being sarcastic...anyone care to explain?

In your case, your iLok which probably cost a $1 to build in China and which offers no function whatsoever to you as an end user is now worth more than it's weight in gold. 20K in fact. And it's a physical object in a digital era, only one unique to you exists.

It doesn't do anything of benefit for you as an end user at all. It only restricts you, a paying customer. What will you do when it fails, gets broken or lost or even stolen which is a problem for people who use Laptops on the move.

If we must have copy protection, there's nothing wrong with the current system of online activations, serial numbers and so on. They are all just as bad as stopping hackers.

Those who pay for software will buy what they want if the system of control is fair. Those who pirate software will pirate it regardless of copy protection was used. ilok will not make them buy a program.

So in all this, the only one who is restricted is the paying customer and if things must be that way, I choose to spend my money on software that doesn't lock me down. Which is why I'm totally down with traditional means of activations like online, or serial codes.

That being said, I do have an iLok as I own two East West Sound Libraries. Pi$$es me off big time I can't have that library installed on my Laptop and Desktop and freely jump between them without having to pull a usb key in and out of a PC. So old school.....

Not to mention the fact that I have had countless problems with iLok drivers and other crap on my years owning the smelly key.

lol.... no iLok love here I tell ya. I hope they go out of business as they are only hurting paying customers.

I didn't realize it at the time but it ended up I can't use this plugin because I'm still on PT9HD and they don't support RTAS version....I suppose I could try it on Logic 9 pro as an AU but I don't really use Logic....On the ilok thing, I've never had any trouble with mine but I'm always afraid it's going to get broke or lost....If that ever happens, I can't imagine what a terrible pain in the butt that's going to be to get everything back!....They should offer instant replacement of your codes on another ilok instead of making you pay for "peace of mind"....I don't like that part of it and won't pay for it....moon
