Which engine?
In AL1:
EXi 1/2 Filter>Filter LFO Mod.
HD1:
Filter>filter 1/2 LFO mod.
Seems to be about as clearly labelled as it could possibly be unless you're trying to do it in an engine that doesn't have a filter.

I have difficulty trying to get the sound I want. I am trying to have the filter of my sound open up more than close the filter gradually. I think you would have to use a sine wave to get the effect. I cannot find an AMS source on the filter page but can find it in LFO mod and filter mod page. I can't find filter cutoff on the list.

If you are using a sine wave, which would do this, the filter opening and closing is going to be a very regular cycle. It's sounds like you'd like the filter so open at one rate and close at a different rate. If this is so, then you have your work cut out for you. You will probably have to use one LFO to change the frequency of the other. If this is a "one-shot" deal, you could use the filter envelope to accomplish this. Short attack, long decay, or vice versa.

Unless you want the process to be cyclic, you should be using an Envelope Generator (EG).
