Wow.... come back to KORG FORUMS and run into a brick wall..
Hey guys, I've been away for a while. I got a text today from a friend about the new Kronos... I was like.... HUH!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I'm lost, and there is so many threads.... can someone point me to a quick place to find out what I need to know about this new piece...
and should original Kronos owners be worried at all?
Thanks and I hope all is well with everyone...
What else if anything have I missed in the last 2 months.?

No, they should be happy. Follow those links that Yuma provided (while I was writing the following:)apex wrote:should original Kronos owners be worried at all?
Basically, there is a new OS 3 update. You can download it, for free, in December.
Yes, a new Kronos, which includes OS 3, will be released around January/February. The differences between your Kronos and the new model are subtle. Wood sides, different font and a grill style back, for improved ventillation.
There is a new Berlin D piano, included, along with a KApro demo bank to entice new Kronos buyers. However, the sounds will be made available to all of us, for a modest fee.
The OS 3 improvements you will see on your Kronos include Touch and Drag capability on the screen. (For example: instead of double tapping to connect synth MOD-7 or MS-20 patch cables, you can just drag the cable to where you want. This applies to knobs and some other functions.)
You will be able to edit programs, while inside a combi or sequence, so you can hear immediate results.
Set List has added Transpose, font sizes, different button colors, and many more improvements, through out.

Please don't forget that the front panel is slanted now, so the display is not flat like on original Kronos. It's at an angle. That's important for a lot of people.Mike Conway wrote:The differences between your Kronos and the new model are subtle. Wood sides, different font and a grill style back, for improved ventillation.

EvilDragon- While not necessarily doubting the screen IS angled, from all the pictures and the video of the 'K2', I can't tell for sure. The video on Korg's site in one section of that video make it SEEM tiltable (I seriously doubt). However, the screen does look a little further closer to the keys which probably would give a better viewing angle.- Thoughts?

I made a wedge to sit between my Kronos X61 and my keyboard stand. It elevates the rear end by 4 inches. Made it out of plywood (simple enough to work with and make), installed a couple of 1/8" wood strips in front of the keyboard feet to keep the keyboard from sliding down and then painted it all flat black. The wood on the back side made it easy to screw in cable tie saddle straps or Velcro to keep everything nice & neat. And now the touch screen view is soooo much better I can see it well from my PC chair at it's lowest height adjustable position.
As I like to make things of this nature, a few years back I made a 12" elevated floor stand for my Boss GT-10 or my Boss ME-50B guitar effects boards for home use so I could easily reach down to tweak them from my usual sitting position.
The beauty of wood is the ease of making it into shapes to suit your needs...
KRONOS X61, Presonus Eris E8's, Fender Precision, Ampeg, Boss ME-50B: I'm either here, there or somewhere else...always...
Speaking about wedges, props and wooden contraptions......
As a point of interest,if the original Kronos were to be placed upon its own rubber feet onto a table, the screen would be at a smaller angle(more horizontal) with the keys slanting away from a player.
I've propped the back end up so that the keys are near level, which increases the screen angle(more of a slant) as well.
Obviously, using an adjustable keyboard stand would provide various angles,so it really is of a lesser significance for many.
Having a PA900 behind the Kronos presented a slight personal problem with reaching the touch screen and the keyboard.
I made a wooden stand with a sliding carriage that provides forward /rearward positioning about an inch clearance above the Kronos.
The PA900 can be pulled closer during play and moved back for rear access of the Kronos(on/off switch and the usb ports etc).
Again, using a keyboard stand would provide similar height and angle settings, but without the horizontal movement….unless an additional cradle was made to
accommodate that adjustment,if needed.
Although the whole keyboard is at an alarming angle of about 60 degrees,at first glance appears to be near vertical and could be off-putting for others to try to play the instrument, but in practice it works well, for me.
Having better access to the screen and keys has been worth the effort of making the tabletop stand etc.
Playabillity improves when I raise the seating level to a more comfortable height.
As it's a makeshift affair, made out of pieces of scrap wood, being very unsightly to look at,so, it doesn't warrant any photo references, but it's a solution to my needs.
(I'm sure most could make a better job than I have, though).
As I'm bedroom studio based, all of this is a static set up,so it would not be suitable for stage work unless much further development and application were made
regarding design,materials,construction etc.
Noticed that the new Kronos screen appears to be a sort of a modular insert.....perhaps to faciltate easier replacement...??
Best Wishes.
