My post was so long that 3 other people posted in the interim.

Tell that to Roland VariOS users. Support is not owed to anybody. It is fantastic when it happens. Most of the gear I bought, never got the kind of OS upgrades that added significantly new features to it. My SY99? Nope. Fantom FA? Nope. TX816? Nope. JP8000? Nope. Triton? Some. Triton Extreme? Nope. My A5000? Nope.
My stand out gear, for upgrades, has been the OASYS, Virus TI, E-MU OS samplers and Kronos. It's not as automatic as you say.
Look at Apple and MS. They sell their OSs cheap and still makes billions of dollars and send out updates.
Are you saying that Windows is free, every year or two? Why do I have to pay to upgrade Windows 7 to version 8? You are comparing mult-billion dollar software companies with small hardware companies. Yes, updates (aka "Service Packs") are released, primarily, so that they can be compatible with more and more programs. When you first buy Windows 8, it doesn't work with a whole lot.
On the other hand, the primary intent of OS support for hardware is to improve and add more features to it, not necessarily make it compatible with 3rd party programs.
Btw, the standard support cycle, for synth gear, is 2 or 3 years. You buy a Fantom F/A, then a Fantom S comes out, then a Fantom X, then the G, then.... Yes, same with Korg and Yamaha, which is why continued support (keeping the product current) for longer than that is a big deal. Once the newer model comes out, support is usually over.
My complaint is Korg overpriced the Korg Kronos X for the amount of patches that are on the disk........The MOXF really isn't much but it has at least 3 times as much patches than the Kronos X does.
Okay, Stephen covered this. I'll add:
You know that you can download more than 30,000 DX7 patches and play them in the Kronos, right? Ironically, newer Motifs can't do that.
Go to korguser.net and download some of the extra program libraries (two more banks of MOD-7, the Devine Legacy banks, two more HD-1 and two more EXs banks. Download Busch's 80's favorites and a bunch of others.
My other banks come from my own creations and purchased OASYS libraries (which work in the Kronos), such as KARO Analog, Granular Elements, Movie library, Philharmonic Strings, Symphonic Strings, Unison Orchestra, Sharp's libraries and others.
And while you are complaining about prices, I paid 8 grand for the OASYS and $400, per KARO library. Kronos came out and everything, including the Kronos was half price! Good for you guys. You don't know how lucky you've got it.
MOXF is strictly a ROMpler. Kronos is a different beast, altogether. I think it's a bargain, but then again, I have awesome strings!

That's the beauty of it, (streaming samples, many downloads available) it can be what you want,
Think about this, there isn't many strings in the Kronos when purchase off the shelf.....I am not hunger bug wanting updates all the time. I only use my board at church.....I just feel they are bleeding people too much. JMHO.
You say that you spent "4k?" Why would you spend that and not go the extra 2 or 3 hundred to have the strings you want?
Question 2: Since you love all the MO presets, why didn't you just buy a Roland Integra-7, to go with your MOXF? You probably wouldn't need any more sounds, ever!
