Try this tip from Dan Phillips:

1. Level meters. There's a parameter to enable/disable on the Global Basic page. Here's the entry from the Parameter Guide:

* * *
Level Meters Off [Off, On]
This option disables the level meters for Oscillators, Timbres, Tracks, audio inputs, IFX/MFX/TFX, and Master Volume.
In some cases, the level meters may slightly decrease polyphony. If this occurs, enable the Level Meter Off option.
* * *

2. SGX-2 string resonance. This can affect polyphony. However, it also should be off by default for all existing sounds. It's controlled by the String Resonance parameter on the new 5–1: String Resonance/Una Corda page.

That sucks - you might want to contact Korg support. I'm sure they'll help you get it figured out.
