when sequencing, everything goes fine with the first track. But when I go on to track two, I'll select a different sound but no matter what sound I select, It's the same sound as track one. I have the m3x. I reinstalled the os. I also tried another procedure where you hold down "reset controls, ifx1, ifx2, while turning it on. Help me!!! ahhh!!!

Go into "Parameters" and change midi from 1 to 2. When tracks are set to the same midi channel it allows multiple instruments to be played at once. Hope this helps.

Ok, haven't used my M3 in a while. But in the opening screen when you hit the sequencer button, then underneath the Song number, you can select the track, make sure you're on Track 2.

Ok lets be sure you are going into the right "parameters" section. Did you push the "Page Select" Button then "P3 Track Parameters"? If not, do that and then you'll see each track, halfway down you'll see "Midi channel". Make sure that's on its own track, in your case 2. This can be found in the M3 Parameter pdf page 230.
Hope that helps

What happens if you to try to record on track 3 (or another available track) instead of track 2?

the same thing happens if I select track three.

OK...sorry, but I need to ask more questions to understand the situation better. Is your M3 the module version or with a keyboard? For example, are you using an external controller to play the M3? Basically, what's your setup?
Also, on the Global P1:MIDI > MIDI Basic screen, what are your settings for SEQ Mode / Track MIDI Out? (for reference, see pg 379 in the Parameter Guide)

I have the module and I'm controlling it with a separate keyboard.
next to track midi out it reads " for master"
I recently had the touchscreen repaired under warranty. I'm wandering if that was the cause of this

The solution could be as simple as changing the MIDI transmit channel of your controller. Try that.
If you are unable to change the transmit channel, then a possible workaround would be change the MIDI channels of the tracks before and after recording. For example:
1. Record track 1 on MIDI channel 1.
2. Change track 1 to MIDI channel 2.
3. Change track 2 to MIDI channel 1.
4. Record track 2.
5. Change track 2 to MIDI channel 3.
and so on... basically, you will be changing each track to the controller's transmit channel for recording and changing it again after recording. You only need to do this if you cannot change the controller's transmit channel, though.

changing the midi transmit channel did work, but I never had to do this before.

The M3 sequencer can record multiple midi channels at the same time so you have to set your controllers accordingly. It may seem like a pain to set up but it does make for a very flexible arrangement.
