What are you all using? I have a couple fathead 2 and a cheap AT no clue of the model and a blue snowball which is a USB mic.
Have any of you tried a USB mic with the Kronos? I haven't tried or looked yet to see if the Kronos will support a USB mic but I will shortly.
Thanks!

You can't use a USB mic.
For the rest, I've only ever used an SM58 beta for live stuff. I don't think the Kronos preamps are the greatest, if you have a separate one you can use results may improve. Certainly you'll need something to power your condenser mics.

I have an RNP preamp, love it. My little el cheapo AT actually has a battery in it. I use the RNP for the Fathead ribbons. Thanks!

I've used my Beyerdynamic Opus 89 for running vocals through it and it sounds pretty good, though it seems difficult to get a very wide dynamic range without running into digital clipping. A compressor/limiter could be helpful. Since it's a dynamic mic, I just use and XLR to balanced 1/4" TRS cable. That seemed to work as good if not better than running through a presonus mic preamp that I had.

I've also used a crappy no-name mic with a switch and 1/4" cable for strictly vocoder effects, and it seems to be fine for that.

I have a Zoom H1 and a Boss Micro BR 80 recorders (Boss is much better though). Both can be connected to L/R audio inputs of Kronos for real time or playback stereo input (and for recording the output of Kronos as well). Both has a neutral (flat) response. With some work on eq and reverb, you can have a beautiful stereo vocal track.

I usually use an Apex 435 large diaphragm mic through one of my Behringer Tube pre amps. The mic requires phantom power which the pre amp can supply.

I highly recommend using a pre amp. You don't have to spend a lot of money on a mic but you definaltely want to get something decent.

Also, learning about micing instruments is important if you want to record, say, a guitar for example.

A new SE Electronics SE2200 A II C Large Condenser mic running through a used Focusrite Vocal Master Pro Platinum has been the best combination for me so far for vocals. Price for all can be had for a little over 400 on Ebay. I'm VERY impressed with the mic for the money. As for preamps I don't have much experience other than a ART. Good hunting!

I use an AKG C1000s (battery powered condenser) and an SE 2200a with an Art preamp. I love the versatility and value for money of these mics
