Strange clipping when using kronos with iPad

Hi!
I like the Idea of being able to layer the sounds from ipad apps with my kronos and I thought that was going to be smooth sailing connecting my ipad air via a camera connection kit when it handles both midi and audio. That was unfortunately not the case. The iPad sounds are clipping with every app that I have tested, like neo soul keys, iGrand, sampletank, bs16i...
I get clipping from the ipad sounds when I:
-only use the usb midi/audio input/output
-use usb midi/audio and then connect a cable from the ipads headphone jack to the kronos inputs 1&2
I don't get clipping from the ipad sounds when I:
-use usb midi/audio and then plug headphones in the ipad
How is that possible? Updating Kronos to os 3 didn't solve the problem. When I listen to music from the ipad and have it connected through usb it doesn't clip either.
Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe a problem with to small latency? Which iPad do you use?
I have an iPadAir and with NeoSoul-Keys for example i have to set latency to 256 frames=5,8ms. When i try smaller latency i get crackles here and there while playing with sustain pedal.
Some apps, like iVoxel, don't support 48khz at all. When you try them you get a heavy distorted sound.
Another thought: which Bus-Setting for USB you have selected on Audio Input-Page? Direkt to L/R or do you use any Insert-Effects for USB?

Hi! Check the input buttons are set to line (not mic) at the back of the Kronos for both left and right channels and make sure the knobs are not turned up too high!

are you using the audiobus app on the iPad?
if you are, then just use the synth app directly without the audiobus app.
Since a couple of months the audiobus app and the kronos don't work together anymore. this is because audiobus slaves itself to the kronos samplerate and it starts running on 235 samples instead of 256 samples (which it did before). So since apps can't run on 235 samples latency they all go into error state or starts clicking and popping if they still do work.
If you use the synth app or FX directly on the iPad then everythings works as intended.
Another thing you can check is the usb 1 and 2 level on the kronos global audio page. If you connect the iPad through usb and stream the audio through usb then set the usb faders on the kronos to 60 instead of the max volume level of 127

Thanks for your suggestions guys!
Although none of them has fixed the problem. I use an iPad Air, no audiobus, I've tried adjusting the latencies, adjusting the level on both usb and input 1&2 (both knobs [set to line] and level sliders) in Kronos, the bus select on Usb is set ti L/R.
It's still making this clipping/crackling noise.
And the weird part is, like I wrote, that it's absolutely fine when I plug headphones in the iPads headphone jack and listen through them. So it seems to me like the problem somehow is in the Kronos...

Have you tried Kronos USB-Audio with your (Mac/Win) computer?

I have yes, with my iMac. I can't use the usb audio with it, after a couple of seconds, or half a minute if I'm lucky, it distorts like crazy. The usb midi works fine, though.
