any proof either way ? I am expecting no as there is sample content but worth checking in case anybody has mastered it

Hi,

No, it won't work out of the box:
* there is the incompatibility of the librarian files. But that difference is limited as the XL has the same engine as the XL+. Someone on this forum has written a small tool to convert XL+ files to XL ones.
* As you indicate, there is the difference in the samples. Again, the guy of the converter did some cross comparison of the samples, based on the names and it turns out that the differences are limited and that some samples just have another number.

So, once a bank is converted from XL+ to XL version, I believe that patches sound pretty much the same between XL and XL+, at least those that don't make use of the PCM.

I had hoped, I knew the engines were the same which is cool, I still use my fave ms2k presets quite often and it shows just how well they made this thing really as it keeps standing up to time.

I'm hoping that somebody posts up some results soon on how to achieve it

Euhm, do you suddently want a MS2000 to XL converter now or what do you want to achieve?

The XL+ to XL converter exists somewhere in this MS2K& mK group...
MS2k factory patches for the XL exist and come with the mKXL editor...

I found the xl+ bank files this weekend and loaded it to my xl just fine

no error messages etc

unless i'm going mad parts of the library are named after other and older patches previously released

some new patches in there that sound great - some not so much

not sure if its left me more confused now as I really didn't expect them to load in, let alone have names that I recognise....hmmm korg whats going on here

Probably, you have found already converted files, suitable for loading into XL.
Files from MicroKorg XL+ can not be loaded in the usual MicroKorg XL.
The difference is not only in the file extensions (extension of XL+ files contain characters ".mkxlp_...", while extension of XL files contain characters ".mkxl_..."), but identifiers sections within the files themselves.

For converting XL+ files in to XL, i'am create "MicroKorg XL+ to XL file converter".
