Genesis Mad Man Moon project help

Post by Windsofsoul »

Calling all Genesis fans, I've been trying to put together some of my favs from the 70s and 80s for posterity sake! Since I'm more a "Jack of all Trades" than anywhere near a master of any, I've decided to download decent midis and modify some instruments, vocals, etc to taste, not necessarily looking for perfect replication but to have some fun!

MMMoom has always been a favorite, but after reaching oh 80% completion I listened to the orig and realized "Hey, they sped this up after the instrumental section, think I'm screwed" Anyway, was hoping someone can give me some insight on how to make timing changes and what they might be. Also opinions on the overall song so far!

Thanks much in advance, and all season keyboardists, musicians, please don't hesitate to mention any plusses or minuses

OK, let me just congratulate you on an amazing effort! To copy such a complex and demanding piece of music as well as you have is impressive.
Genesis has always been my favorite band, so I know their songs well.
The first thing I noticed was that your voice sounds quite a lot like Gabrial,
WOW, really great vocal work, very well done.
Next, what instruments other than Kronos are you using? because the music is pretty spot on to the original.
The only thing that you might consider on this, is a real drummer playing the parts, so it would flow a bit more. (Im a long time drummer that also plays keyboards)
Other than that, you mentioned subtle tempo changes that are hard to duplicate, but doesn't detract to much from your effort IMO.
Hats off to you, you've got some real talent.

Thanks groK-Guy but I can't take the credit for the majority of the construction of the song, that praise goes to a stranger whom I'm thankful for. I downloaded the midi then made instrument changes from what was available in the Kronos!

I used a couple of tape vocals and tape violins in the verses and choruses.

I'd be honored if you felt like doing the drums on this? That's my absolute biggest weakness. I could pop the seq file to dropbox and let you have at it at your convenience...

Thanks for the input, the voice is a little weak, got to get over the cigs. javascript:emoticon('')

I missed the fact that this was not your original copy of the song.
(drummers, ha ha)
But, It still shows your vocal abilities and what the mighty Kronos can do. I'm always amazed how good the sounds are in the Kronos, It just keeps getting better!
As far as me doing drum parts, I only have an acoiustic kit, and my skills playing drums on keyboard wouldn't do your work justice.
If I only had that Roland TD 20 I've been dreaming of, for my studio that I wish I owned, I'd take you up on your offer!

Thanks man, appreciate the kind words, have a great Easter!

By the way the Roland TD 20 looks pretty amazing, do you connect something like a nanopad to that?

Windsofsoul,

Happy Easter to you also!
Yeah the TD20 was Rolands best electronic drum kit.
Now there's a TD 30 which trumps the 20.
These are amazing and very expensive, around $7500.
If you haven't seen what they can do, check them out on
YouTube. no nano pad necessary!
A set of these would go perfect with my Kronos.
