Loose keys?

Post by Xtrea »

Hello guys new to the forums but I have feeling you guys will see me more! I just bought my second kronos today. (Unfortunately my first one was stolen about a year ago. :c) I didnt have the 4 grand to drop on a new one so I decided to buy one off the clearance section from guitar center for only 1800 for a x88 if i could live with some very slight scratches on the side.

I got it and it appears to have been damaged during shipping (according to the man who sold it to me. The top 7 keys (F to C) are unweighted and loose also wiggle a little tad into the keyboard. They still technically work in the sense that they still make contact and generate noise.

I can easily return it and get my money back, or i could maybe get it repaired? It was the last one that guitar center had on clearance and really love the kronos. What do you guys think? Is there anyway/info to repair it without voiding the warantee? I also have the guitar center pro coverage! Thanks in advance man!

The only way to have it repaired without voiding your warranty is to have a authorized service center do it. If your handy you might be able to open it up and fix it, but then you void your warranty. I think you got a good deal on it. If it is covered by the warranty have the service center do it.

I don't believe the Korg warranty would cover 'shipping damage . "

You would have to be clear on exactly what the " Pro coverage " does.

I am not into "DIY " repairs on an expensive board. It sounds like the worst option to me if it got dropped/abused. So you might end up returning it for a refund. I wouldn't wait around too much.

I wouldn't be put off with a DIY repair if the warranty didn't cover it. I have repaired a number of faulty keys on keyboards. I think these are the easiest repairs. It's all mechanical basically, other than the contacts. If there is no contact problem then it is just a matter of finding out why the keys don't seat properly.

usually an assessment is needed before figuring out how/what to fix ;)

Have replacement parts even been needed for the Kronos keybed ?

Unless you have X-ray vision I would suspect the only way to do a proper assessment is to open it up. It is not that difficult.

Update: Im taking it to guitar center in the moring as they will fix it or send it to someone who will as per there warantee but for free as it was shipping damage. I assume it would of been a easy fix too but I would rather not void the warantee. Thanks guys!

Good for you. That is the best route. It will be fixed properly and you will retain your warranty. I think you got a great deal. Enjoy your new keyboard. It really is in a league of its own.
