Unusual Problem in loading up Exis 19

Post by DennyC »

Hi,

Just acquired a newer K2 from a member. I'm having mega trouble installing the supposed free Exis 19 from Karo. I downloaded the top 19...which I know is the correct one. I downloaded it from the Kronos web site with Winrar and loaded it up on my flash drive just like normal.

When I try to install the exisins file the following message appears: "Failed Exs install exisins file error". BTW, the thumb drive has been successful a number of times on my old K and I used Winrar to unzip it. After the first error, I thought I would try another known good flash drive. Same error. Next, I drove 45 miles to my office to download it from there on my first flash 4G drive; as I have the deadly satellite internet at home and it takes hours to load this from home.

Here is what's displayed on the disk drive in the K2.

Exs19 exins 1kb
Exs19 tar 1,135,358kb
S019 1kb

When I try to install it...same error. P.S. I have already done a full reformat of the flash drive on the new K2. I am really frustrated! I am hoping that one of you has the answer. Thanks so much in advance.

This link may help...
Read the posts from burningbusch (the 7th one on the page) and Nez_Man (the last one).

http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... highlight=

There are other posts regarding this, you may try a forum search.....the only search method I know how to use is a Google one, which produced the example link etc.

Best Wishes.

It's a problem with how Windows displays zipped folders vs the inability of Kronos OS to deal with folder name anomalies.
The files you describe need to be inside a folder called EXs19 on your USB stick. Not in the root.

Thanks for all the help. I did what Sanderexpander gave as instructions...
I had even printed them out.

My problem is with the EXs19.exsins file. That is where the error message is coming from. As with Nez Man's 3 files--I have the same three.
Mine says it has 1kb as the size and upon further looking it is 498 bytes.

Installing that file is the first step but it says that there is a file error. Could any of you who were successful see if the 498 bytes is the correct size.

Thanks,
Denny C :) :) :)

Well...I just let the computer load the EXs19 all night long. I put it on the flash drive and.......Same doggone error. I have the 3 correct files as outlined above. Then I got the flash drive that I had used for EXs57, stored that on my desktop and loaded in the 3 files and.......Same doggone error!!!

Could one of you kind souls send me the 1kb Es19exsins file? Dan at Korg-this is frustrating and exasperating. Thanks guys and or any compassionate ladies out there. :) :) :)

Do you mean it took all night long to download the file ?

I can understand your frustration with this, but before you give up entirely,I shall make few suggestions (without any guarantee, though).
You may have already done these things, but worth checking etc.

Format the usb thumb drive to Fat 32 ,you can do so on the Kronos as well as a computer.
(I realise you've used it for other installations, but it wouldn't hurt to repeat, which will then provide a clean/blank drive).

The library file may be corrupt somehow, perhaps another download may help....which shouldn't take that long really.
Making sure it is for the K2 that you have.(There are two files to choose from…).

The unzipping only needs to be done once, for the main file, which will produce the folder……the contents must remain intact without any further attempts to unzip/unpack nor extract from.(Check the unzipping method that's being used).

This folder is then copied onto at the thumb drive……onto the Kronos etc... where further process should (hopefully) take place.
As a point of interest,I actually tried an install today(on a K1 original) and everything was fine.

Good Luck.

Edit....Just re read your original post, missed the part about re format and download.....forgive me for making the suggestions....
Perhaps it may work with another attempt...though.... :)

Also, you can check the usb thumb drive from the Kronos, Utillity - Check Medium, and via Media Info tab.(It may provide some useful information).

Thanks for the reply Pedro. I have dowloaded the Exs 19 twice. Once from my office about 20 min...it is high speed. And last night, all night long on satellite internet.

I formatted the first flash drive on the K2 although it was previously formatted on my original K...both fat 32.

Pedro, I had the same 3 files as you. What is the size of your EXs19 exins
file? Mine says 498 bytes and/or 1kb.

Thanks, Denny C :) :) :)

Forgive the delay in replying.

On an imac...
The exsins is 498 bytes
The tar.gz is 1.16 GB gzip compressed archive.
The SO19 is 74 bytes

On a pc (win xp)...
Exs19 exins 1kb
Exs19 tar 1,135,358kb GZ file
S019 1kb

This is the same as what you have.

I transferred the imac folder files onto the usb stick for testing purposes,I'm assuming the pc version would present the same result, but can't confirm that.

If the check on the Kronos indicate that the usb thumb drive media is ok,perhaps there could be a setting that's preventing further progress.
Trying another library could test this, regarding the install part.(Which can be removed later, if not wanted etc).

Other owners have had similar problems with installing libraries,so you're not alone.......the trick here is finding a solution,I'm sure we shall find one, eventually. :)

Best Wishes.

If you bought this slightly used from a friend you will have to contact Korg to get this straight. You have to have it registered to your name in order to download the free EX19s. His ID number is different than yours on the Kronos and sounds like this is the problem. You can have the Kronos transferred in your name and then your downloads should work. I hope this helps if i am interpretating your problem correctly.

It's a valid point regarding authorization, but the downloaded file is a demo and I think should install anyway(with limited playability).

Thanks Pedro 5 and Benny Ray. It is registered in my name. This is frustrating....my wife suggested that I find one to purchase. I am thinking about the solina one from kapro...$29.00.

But I really do want the ESx19. I am stumped...that is, unless someone can email me or pm me the EXs 19 exsins file. I can unzip it. I would try to copy and paste it with the other parts of the download.

I am open to any ideas that I haven't tried. Thanks so much to all of you that have been responding.

Thanks, Denny C

Just a note regarding trying another library.
What I meant was to download a different demo from the Korg site for testing purposes.....without any need to purchase etc.

This could help with the actual process of installation and possibly indicate where the stumbling block is....?

Have you tried using the other usb port ?

Best Wishes.

Thanks Pedro. I will try to load it on the other usb port. That I did not do. :) :) :)

Dan, every EXs or updates always had the tar.gz file and a couple of others separated out for loading after the download. You are an expert, I would have thought you would have also seen Pedro's post. My three files are the same size as Pedro's and are named exactly as his. Your advice is ususally spot on. But what you are suggesting is that Pedro's EXs should not have loaded up either as he has the same 3 files and file sizes as mine.

Dan, If you could please show me a better download method, it would be appreciated. I have only had one other problem on downloads and thanks to some here I got through that. The only I know to download the Exs is the click on it and use Winrar to help the download. And then go from there. If you could suggest, with some detail, a better technique I would welcome that; then I could download it using your method Right now, this is how it downloads:

Exs19 exins 1kb (this is the problem file)498 bytes
Exs19 tar 1,135,358kb GZ file
S019 1kb
The enigma is that Pedro's loads and mine does not. :) :) :)
Thanks in advance.

I think that there may be a misunderstanding. As XanderXpander noted in the message I quoted, the issue is not the files; the issue is the enclosing folder. On the USB stick, are the three files in an enclosing folder named EXs19? That folder is included in the zip, and is created automatically when un-zipping on the Mac, but unfortunately some Windows un-zip apps do not do this properly.
