Is it possible to play two sounds at a time on the r3 when using an mpc 2500 as the master . |

I posted a question yesterday and nobody seems to know the answer , is it because it was a stupid question , or is it because the users of this site are too intelectual that it is below them to answer a silly question like this , or is the question too difficult and nobody knows the answer . |

Hi doodle,
I do not know about the mpc2500 but in general
the R3 can play two sounds at a time (I guess you mean
two different "timbres", not just voices).
You can either set it up to layer the sounds (practical for
e.g. drum synthesis, I made a pretty nice 808 snare this way yesterday),
you can set up a keyboard split so that e.g. the lower keys play timbre 1 and the upper keys play timbre2
or you can set the R3 to use individual midi channels for each timbre ("multi voice mode"). The first timbre will use the "global" midi channel (I think you can only change that on the R3 itself), the second one will use the "timbre2 midi channel".
Please take a look at the R3 PC/MAC editor, it should become pretty obvious then.
p.s.: finally, do not be so impatient, nobody answered my question, either |

I think it is possible to change a single timbre by sending a MIDI program change (actually I was not quite sure if this is possible until I read the manual some minutes ago..).
Since I do not have the R3 anymore I cannot give you an exact answer but please take a look at page 147 of the Radias manual ("Switching Timbres"); I think the same steps also apply to the R3.
Basically, the LSB (least significant byte) of the bank select determines which timbre to change to.
Here are some examples from the manual:
Bank MSB, Bank LSB , ProgChange, Prog&Timbre Number
------------------------------------------------------------------------
32 , 32, 0127, A01H16 (Timbre1)
32, 33, 0127, I01P16 (Timbre1)
32, 34, 0127, A01H16 (Timbre2)
32, 35, 0127, I01P16 (Timbre2)
32, 36, 0127, A01H16 (Timbre3)
32, 37, 0127, I01P16 (Timbre3)
32, 38, 0127, A01H16 (Timbre4)
32, 39, 0127, I01P16 (Timbre4)
32, 64, 031, Drum Kit 031 *2
(the table is taken from the manual)
p.s.: The R3 has only 2 timbres and no drum kit , ofcourse. |
