I have an X3 and been trying to get a full deep piano sound with some reverb. I am using the X2 piano but have clean it to nothing and am starting fresh. I have been doing some editing but just can't seem to get the right piano sound. Any ideas would be great...
Thanks
Michael

I just stumbed across your query. Although the X2/3 are different from the 01W, the basics stay refreshingly the same in the general Korg OS paradigm. Go here and read up on it. Your best pal for complex solo patches IS the Combi arena. Just do some layering and watch the roses bloom.

Thanks H...
I will try that. Yes, I have noticed that the basics are the same in general on that platform... |

Keep in mind that while stacking too many instances of a waveform can lead to mush, a Combi is a beautiful thing because judicious splits and layers are easily had. Each area of a real piano behaves a bit differently. Real bass strings would be about 15 feet LONG if the harmonics were totally respected. That was done with the Klavins piano, a one-of-a-kind monster. Because synths are so naked, in a sense, you simply have to turn your thinking a bit to one side and approximate such things. In my experience, you get a lot in so doing. I not only came up with my main, brash soloing piano in the process, I ended up with a great honky-tonk version and a sweeter ballad-oriented one. The 01W has a few minor lacks, but the goods are essentially IN there. That's where the octave switches and the 4' and 8' piano waves come in. Good luck widdit! |
