Oasys piano samples origin
I was wondering the other day: does anyone know what acoustic pianos were used for the sampling sessions for the Oasys?..

I'm not emailing with an answer as I don't know, but I was thinking the same just the other day. I wonder if EXs2 is a Bosendorfer? There's something about that piano sound that does not sound Steinway - I could well be wrong - and it also has a weight in the low-mid and low end that suggests something a little more 'imperious' when played with appropriate playbacl levels and reverb. A wild guess of course.

Isn't the EXs2 piano the same as in the preset PCM, only with longer samples?..Kevin Nolan wrote:I'm not emailing with an answer as I don't know, but I was thinking the same just the other day. Hi Charlie.
If your after a darker sound and since KORG did use a Bösendorfer, it might be worth while pulling the Program apart and having a look at the EQ and filtering used. You might find what your looking for with a few tweaks.
Also check out the Cutoff values. I find KORG use them to great effect and a little adjustment there alone could be all your after.
Kind Regards.
Sharp.

Sharp , thanx for your tipps.
I'm not after "darker sounds", but I thought that the origin of the Korg samples will not be Boesi, as they sounded too bright for that.
However, in the meanwhile I found the Boesi sound too, and as expected a sounds a bit darker. I'm still proud to know my piano!
In real life I think the Boesi has the more powerfull bass, too (that is compared to Steinway). I play lots of bass-octaves on my Boesi at home - and my family keeps running away, because even in a large living room it's simply too much - esp. when opening up the piano.
I found it quite interesting to compare the different piano-sounds via the Karo library. It's a pity you cannot load more than one to compare between 2 - you have to record it to compare. And as Sharp wrote: the sound-programming still makes a huge difference (well, guess that's what you have synth-workstation for
).
