Wow. Looks "real." Nice work.

But what's all the fuss about? I don't really like the external supply either, but mainly because it makes the M50 feel like a toy. Other than that, it doesn't really bother me. Then again, I don't gig with it (yet). Is live use the problem?

Yup.

If I never left the house with it, it wouldn't be an issue. When you gig 3 times a week, too much potential for problems. LOST, FORGOTTEN, BROKEN DC JACK, PULLED OUT BY CLUMSY BASS PLAYER, etc.

I'm always worrying about losing it or forgetting the power adapter. Now I don't.

p.s. a little more soldering and I'll post a link to the entire album of pics. WAY too many to post in a thread.

Mc,

For all of us that are not in the US, a multivoltage external supply (like the one provided by Korg) is a good solution to avoid buying a transformer to make the keyboard work. Here it's 220V.

Another solution would be an internal power supply with a switch to change voltages (like desktop PC's), to cover all the bases.

kikedeolivos,

I know. All I did was mount the power supply they shipped on the inside. Korg did the exact same thing with their M3. In the M3, they have an external power supply (just like the one shipped with the M50) mounted on the inside.

When you see all of my pics, you'll see what I did.

I'm cropping and uploading now. All I can say is, it was totally worth the time.

Well,

Forget about that on my 61. Probably not enough room inside.

I still think there would be in the same area where I mounted mine. You would just have to mount it at a different angle. Only one way to find out - with a screwdriver.

I'll tell ya though, if you gig, you won't regret the decision at all.

AT ALL...

McHale. Thank you for these pictures. I have on question about the picure showing the power supply mounted and connected. There is a grey "loopback?" thinging connected to the cable. What is that for and is it needed for the mod? Thanks!

which picture?

If you're talking all that stuff soldered to the back of the AC jack for the test fitting, that's old crap from the power supply. I pitched all that.

Now if you're talking the round thing at the end of the DC cable, that's to eliminate noise/interference. I cut that off and bought one at Radio Shack that I ran the wire through before soldering it to the board.

Well after showing up to my last gig with everything but that damn power supply (I know, I'm an idiot), I decided to take the plunge.

So after about 30 screws, 10 drill holes, a bit of filing and a tiny bit of soldering, I'm a happy man. This is what Korg should have done in the first place.

McHale...Thank you so much for leading the way!!!

Congrats!!! By my calculation, you're #2 to have completed this mod. I hope my pics were helpful. I got in a bit of a hurry the closer I got to being done. And what's funny is how many people have commented about it. If you can, would love to see any pics you may have taken - especially an external shot of the jack.

EVERY time I plug that thing in now it's like a breath of fresh air to not have to deal with that external power supply.

p.s. Which M50 do you have? 61, 73, or 88?
