i have a problem. when i hook my mircokorg up to my mac via usb-midi cable, i can only record the sounds of the soft synths that come with garageband. any help is appreciated _________________ come to the dark side...

That's exactly the way it's supposed to work. When you connect up to you mac via a USB-midi "cable", then you won't get the microkorg sounds onto the computer that way. Midi is not audio. You can't "hear" midi and it has no sound, at least not until something plays it. It's like sheet music. Sheet music has no sound until someone plays it. USB-midi is like a faxing sheet music - you aren't faxing the sound of the music, only the musical notations and instructions. So when you press the C3 key with velocity 64 on the Microkorg, that event data/information is sent to the computer over the USB-midi interface, and whatever softsynth that is set up will play the C4 note with velocity 64 using whatever program that's been assigned to the midi channel and port.
If you want the Microkorg audio sent to the computer, you need to hookup audio cables to the L/Mono and R outputs on it and connect to some L+R audio input on the computer. |
