How could it be a grand...it is only + $200 in US.
They should be proportional in other country's.

This is Australia - they add import tax, sales tax, transport costs and anything else that suits them - musical instruments are EXPENSIVE here - always have been.
I am always jealous when I see overseas prices _________________ PA4X-76, Karma, WaveDrum GE, Fantom 8 EX

Unfortunately Lee, "should be" and "is" are two different things.
The wholesalers will gouge whatever they think they can get, and the public is prepared to pay.
Even sadder out here is that Musiclink, once an independent importer and the exclusive Korg distribuor in Oz, is now owned by the huge music chain Allens....
So what that means as yet, I don't know. What I suspect will happen is that "strangely" enough Allens stores will probably get the lion-share of all the new imported Korg keyboards, leaving regionals to squabble over the scraps..
Only time will tell. And for the record yes it IS $1000 difference between the 61 note PA3 and the 76 note. $5999 and $6999.

Oh Dennis
Now I AM depressed
MusicLink=Allens=Billy Hyde - is this a monopoly? I am beginning to think we don't stand a chance!!!!
I have always had excellent service and support from MusicLink - I hope that doesn't change too

Yeah Pete I agree totally, and retailers out here are bitching that more an more Aussies are buying direct from the US!!!!
Maybe they should look at their OWN pricing policies to see the answer to that!!

Sadly most of the retail industry in Australia is in a similar position and heading for potential disaster. The importers.distributors and retailers need to wake up and take notice, the age of online international shopping is here. Why would you pay $6000 for something in Australia when you can get it for half that price overseas ? The only valid argument the stores seem to have is "warranty".
There are new shipping/freight companies popping up to cater for this booming industry and Postal Services are having to 'sharpen their pencils' to compete for the business. Unless Australian Retail/distributors lower their margins and start offering prices that compare realistically to their counterparts overseas, they will lose a lot of business.
Yes, there are taxes, duty and freight charges to consider - but the margins made by distributors and retailers is still very large in the pro-audio / Music industry and there is enough meat in there to be more internationally competitve.
You could almost buy a high-end instrument from USA, and in the event of it having a warranty issue, jump on a plane and personally take it back to California to have it repaired, and still have a better deal when you add up the dollars. _________________ Steve M
