Got it...!!! - Faulty Keybed??
So, UPS delivered it a day earlier than planned and I got my K88 delivered today! after a few mixed initial reactions I can now conclude that thing is simply amazing!
The "Keybed" was a huge negative surprise a compared with the Oasys, XV88 or XF8 and I almost said to myself - Jeez... this is going to go back in the next hour or so. Uneven spacing, a bit inconsistent height, less 'throw' than I am used to. Then I started trying out the sounds and as I switched the patches I couldn't stop playing and totally forgot my impression about the keybed. The keys are very responsive, bounce back fast and not too heavy like XF, so I can now play most of the sounds at ease.
I am happy with what I've got and couldn't expect better at this price point. Goof job KORG. I think I have made the right choice of changing my earlier K61 for K88.

Just curious on your keybed impression - do you feel the keybed is good now that you have played it with the sounds?
I can see just at face-value how someone might not like the keybed...but it took very little time before I enjoyed it and now I actually enjoy it more than other keyboards I have owned.
Re: Got it...!!!
You are right - it is mainly about the face value and the fact that the spacing is uneven and the throw is less than desired, especially compared with XF8 which is perfect, if measured by millimetres. However I got used to it quickly. All that can be ignored given what the machine offers..PinkFloydDudi wrote: Just curious on your keybed impression - do you feel the keybed is good now that you have played it with the sounds?

If I look horizontally, some keys are closer than other keys and leaving more gaps with the corresponding adjacent key. Vertically, the keybed top doesn't form a perfect plane throughout parallel to the ground. Again, this is something that can be ignored but worth mentioning, as this is not a perfect example of how to design and manufacture a keybedDniss wrote:Congrats!
I find your keybed comment puzzling. I didn't find anything "unevenly spaced" or anything. Not that I'm saying you're wrong, but I really didn't notice anything like that.

I can see very minor spacing issues, and the bed is a wee bit spongy. The key height is very uniform.
That said, I got used to the feel almost immediately. I still like the feel of my ES90es better for piano and e piano, but the K88 is surprisingly good for almost everything else. For example, weighted keyboards just aren't made for Hammond play, but the K handles it quite well considering it's weighted and much better than the Yamaha.

Yamaha S90es, Hammond XK-1, Kronos 88, Gibson Les Paul, American Deluxe Strat, Taylor accoustic, Vox amp, Motion Sound Pro 145, KC-550s x2, a bunch of plugins, and a Kawai grand.

For us still waiting. Your comments are what I was hoping for. Surely that is all by design and research. Most players want to play piano and organ on a synth that provided piano and organ sounds. The common sense design then, would be the keyboard that you are commenting on.Fred S wrote:I can see very minor spacing issues, and the bed is a wee bit spongy. The key height is very uniform.

Maybe I don't need a semi weighted midi controller.
Here's hoping .
And I discover something - I think I've got the faulty keybed. Some keys sound muted as I start playing and I have got a specific pattern which is 100% reproducible every time.
This is ridiculous, I simply refuse to accept lack of quality control issues resulting into such basic flaws. Looks like KORG rushed this in the market without doing a proper home work.
That's all, I'm done with this. My K88 is going back today.

There's no worse feeling in the world than after the excitement of a new keyboard and then feeling you have to return it.
I hope your replacement brings back the excitement!

I find the RH3 very playable but I spotted similar construction issues with mine and reported them on the forum some time ago. Korg has assured me they will fix mine but I'm waiting to do it along with the RAM upgrade next month. Personally, I think there is something going on at Korg QC that needs to be addressed as too many people are reporting problems with their keyboards and many of those problems seem to be the same ones that came up on the SV1.
If your keyboard looks like mine, I would definitely get it exchanged. Nobody should have to accept that kind of construction.

Bruce, I actually thought somebody got access to my home and took the photographs of my K88! I do not need to post any pictures, this is exactly how my Kronos looks like....Bruce Lychee wrote:I find the RH3 very playable but I spotted similar construction issues with mine and reported them on the forum some time ago. I have the spacing variations, which don't bother me at all. Fortunately I don't have the differences in key height, which would have bothered me a great deal!
