Hi all
I am sure you are all aware of the great "karma-lab" forums but just in case you weren't aware, there is a great solution to the extinct diskette drive.
I have replaced mine and now have the luxury of having all my diskettes on one USB thumb drive.
See here for details and some great supporting documentation:-

Hi Pete -
Thanks a million for the pointer - this is excellent news. I wonder - will this work with older synths like the T3, O1/W, SY77 and SY99?
Cheers,
Kevin. |

Hey Kevin
This emulator may well work in those other keyboards - I have just ordered another one to install in my Yamaha QY700. Do some googling and maybe check the forums (Yam and Korg) - hopefully you will get some answers.
I made some notes when replacing my Karma floppy drive and I am happy to share those with you if you decide to get one - just let me know.
Good luck

Hey this sounds like a great solution. I am going to order one for my karma and one for my Kurzweil k2500. Can any one answer two questions:
Is each virtual floppy limited to 1.5 MB or can you put larger files on? This will be an issue on the k2500.
Also, will I be able to update my karma firmware with this. My floppy drive has gotten too buggy.
Oh and one more. Is there a Mac option for formatting the USB drive?
Thanks ! |

Hi Graham
No - the emulator just presents itself as a 1.5MB floppy (but 100 of them!!!!)
Yes - firmware updates work fine - the Karma does not know that it is NOT a floppy drive and will boot from it provided you copy all the firmware files exactly as they would appear on a real floppy.
As far as I know there is no Mac formatting tool for it so just get Oracle's Virtualbox (free) or VM-Fusion or Parallels and create yourself a basic XP virtual machine - solves ALL my "NEVER-WANT-WINDOWS-AGAIN" problems.
Good luck - the emulator is great - I put one in my Yamaha QY700 - given it a new lease of life!!!
Cheers
